The Spreewald is primarily known for its numerous rivers and Spree arms, but with the Neuendorfer, Hindenberger and Schwielochsee lakes, there are also several attractive lakes in the popular holiday region. Pincamp presents the best lakeside campsites in the Spreewald and provides you with the most important information for your camping trip in the Spreewald.

Camping in the Spreewald by the lake: all important information at a glance

Just a few hours' drive from Berlin, the Spreewald in the green state of Brandenburg is a magical place. The Spree branches out over hundreds of kilometres and offers the best conditions for unwinding on a trip by the water.

The Spreewald biosphere reserve has a lot to offer camping enthusiasts in particular: Families can relax on well-tended beaches when camping by the lake in the Spreewald. Active holidaymakers can also enjoy canoe tours, hikes and bike rides along the lakeshore or through breathtaking heathland landscapes. Many campsites also welcome four-legged friends to cool off in the water-rich Spreewald.

Most campsites are located near the Spreewald towns of Burg, Lübben, Lübbenau and around Lake Schwielochsee. Here you can camp in almost unspoilt nature in a camper van, caravan or tent in the middle of the nature park. The campsites are usually located directly on the water, so you can explore the Spreewald on a canoe tour or boat trip. The facilities at the campsites in the Spreewald are generally excellent. Many campsites cater for families with children and offer a wide range of leisure activities. In addition to pitches for motorhomes and caravans, bungalows or holiday homes are often also available to rent. For a direct experience of nature, it is best to stay overnight at one of the beautiful nature campsites in the Spreewald.

The 5 best campsites by the lake in the Spreewald

There are many beautiful campsites in the Spreewald and some real insider tips. To make your choice a little easier, we present 5 of the most beautiful lakeside campsites in the Spreewald here.

Campsite in a beautiful location on a peninsula in Lake Neuendorf. The ideal starting point for exploring the Lower and Upper Spreewald, you can hire boats or bikes at the site. The Raatsch peninsula is also an ideal spot for water sports enthusiasts or for relaxing on the beach.

Camping on Lake Hindenberg

The spacious pitches on the terraced shore of Lake Hindenberg are particularly inviting for nature lovers and water hikers. The old town of Lübbenau is only a 10-minute walk away, and fresh bread rolls are available directly on site in the morning.

Spreewald-Camping Lübben

Great camping park in the heart of the Spreewald and only 5 minutes from Lübben. Boat trips are available directly on the site, and boats and bikes are also available for hire. If you are travelling without camping equipment, you can also spend the night in the cosy "Finnhütte" on the site.

Spreewälder Seecamping & Briesensee lido

Surrounded by pine forest, this beautiful campsite is located directly on the shores of Lake Briesensee. Some of the unspoilt pitches are very close to the water. A highlight is the great beach, which makes this site the first choice for sun worshippers and water rats.

Best time to travel for a camping holiday in the Spreewald

The Spreewald is suitable for a camping holiday all year round, but the region is particularly popular with campers in the summer months, as you can go swimming at this time. If you want to combine your camping holiday with swimming fun and boat trips, the best time to visit is from May to October.

However, bear in mind that many campsites are very busy during these months. It is therefore advisable to book well in advance, as you often won't get anything at the last minute in summer. You should also remember to bring mosquito repellent during the hot season if you don't want to be eaten.

The best activities and excursions for Spreewald campers

Numerous beaches attract water lovers when camping by the lake in the Spreewald, while active holidaymakers can go cycling, hiking or canoeing in the beautiful alluvial forests and moorland landscapes.

Swimming fun and water sports

The 13 km² Schwielochsee forms the northern border of the Spreewald and offers fantastic bathing spots with well-tended sunbathing lawns. The lake also boasts numerous water sports facilities. Active holidaymakers can hire a kayak or rowing boat to explore the unspoilt shore. The lake is also an Eldorado for waterskiing and sailing, while Lake Neuendorf in Alt-Schadow offers family-friendly bathing spots and an attractive holiday programme in and around the water.

Active holidays in the Spreewald

Located in the heart of the Spreewald biosphere reserve, Lake Neuendorf enchants visitors with its unique natural surroundings. Sporty and active visitors to the Spreewald can enjoy the 270km-long Gurkenradweg, the 7th stage of which passes Lake Neuendorf. The route leads to Groß Leuthen, where a charming Renaissance castle awaits those interested in culture. South of Lake Hindenberg is a popular hiking area: the Niederlausitzer Rücken Nature Park. The 18-kilometre "Silbergras und Heidesand" tour, which starts near Hohenleipisch, is particularly impressive. In August and September, the heather blooms in magnificent shades of purple.

Events

Traditional folk festivals provide variety on holiday in the Spreewald, as do events on the water and sporting competitions.

July

  • Lübbenau folk and shooting festival: On the first weekend in July, guests at the Lübbenau folk and shooting festival can enjoy concerts on the church square, in Poststraße and in the castle park. Families can have fun in the amusement park with its swing boat and giant slide.
