Nestled in a densely wooded hilly landscape, the emerald-coloured Lago Trasimeno enchants visitors with its magnificent natural beauty. Active holidaymakers camping by the lake on Lake Trasimeno can cycle or walk through olive groves and across flowering meadows. The Umbrian holiday region also has plenty to offer culture lovers with its picturesque medieval villages.
There are various cultural and natural treasures to discover when camping on Lake Trasimeno.
Culture lovers can discover numerous treasures from the past around Lake Trasimeno. On the western shore, for example, the fascinating Castiglione del Lago has retained its medieval character with its well-preserved town walls and castle. Numerous magnificent town palaces can be seen on the tour. The Rocca del Leone fortifications are also impressive and can be seen from afar with their crenellated walls. The town of Città della Pieve charms visitors with the narrowest alleyway in Italy. The town is famous for the altarpiece of the Madonna in the Cathedral Dei Santi Gervasio e Protasio. It is also not far by car to the surrounding medieval towns of Assisi, Siena and Perugia.
From Passignano, a mountain bike takes you on a 36 km tour through the beautiful nature of the holiday region. You pass olive groves and broom bushes on the almost 800 metre-high Monte Castiglione. Once at the top, it is worth taking a break to admire the magnificent view of Lake Trasimeno. A hike from Bettona to Collemancio also leads into the gentle mountain landscape of central Italy. On the 19-kilometre route, active travellers first get to know Bettona's old town before climbing up the wooded hills.
Three islands await visitors to Lake Trasimeno. The former fishing island of Isola Maggiore in the north covers an area of 24 hectares and is one of the most popular excursion destinations in the region. It is home to several interesting churches and a museum of handicrafts. At just under 70 hectares, Isola Polvese is the largest of the three lake islands. Olive trees and holm oaks characterise the island's landscape. The reeds near the shore are home to numerous species of amphibians and birds. The third and smallest island, Isola Minore, is privately owned and uninhabited.
From spring to autumn, guests and locals celebrate together at traditional events and enjoy the atmosphere by the lake.
