There are excellent options for naturist camping in Bavaria, especially in the south. Many naturist campsites can be found around the lakes of the Alpine foothills and the Allgäu, for example. From the Chiemsee, Tegernsee and Forggensee lakes, holidaymakers can enjoy swimming fun and fantastic views of the snow-covered Alps. Other good naturist campsites in Bavaria offer their services in Franconia, for example.
The Allgäu is one of the most beautiful regions for a holiday with naturist camping in Bavaria. The local Alpine and Alpine foothills fascinate with dreamlike landscapes and picturesque lakes. Waters such as the Forggensee, the Große Alpsee and Bavaria's section of Lake Constance are particularly tempting for relaxing days by the water, and you can experience the blossoming of the alpine meadows on excursions in spring. On the way up into the mountains, hikers will come across rustic huts and mountain farms where you can enjoy a hearty meal. The region around Füssen is interesting for families. Nearby is the fairytale castle of Neuschwanstein from the 19th century.
Lake Chiemsee is also located in the south of Bavaria and is one of the largest lakes in Germany after Lake Constance and Müritz. The Bavarian lake fascinates visitors with its picturesque beaches and offers a wide range of leisure activities: Cycling tours, hiking, swimming and sailing are just some of the best activities, while excursions from the naturist campsite on Bavaria's Chiemsee to Fraueninsel and Herreninsel are an absolute must. With their castles and monasteries, both islands are popular destinations and real sightseeing highlights. In the north of Bavaria, the Altmühltal is a good option for a naturist holiday. We recommend the Altmühlsee with the holiday communities of Gunzenhausen and Muhr. The lake offers numerous activities ranging from sailing and surfing to kiting. The neighbouring Große Brombachsee is also popular with naturist campers.
Bavaria's lake, river and forest landscapes offer the perfect setting for cycling and hiking excursions, swimming fun and water sports.
In Bavaria, the courses of several rivers in particular offer good options for excursions by bike. Active holidaymakers can follow the route through the Altmühltal valley or learn more about Bavarian culture along the Danube. Stopovers are possible in Regensburg and Passau, for example - both cities are fascinating with their cathedrals.
Many travellers to Bavaria head to the foothills of the Alps for hiking. In the Allgäu in particular, mountain ranges such as the Hörnergruppe offer great opportunities for an excursion. Lush alpine meadows and spectacular viewpoints await visitors here. The Bavarian Forest offers a somewhat flatter altitude profile and is therefore recommended for families with children.
From the Chiemsee to the Großer Brombachsee, from the Tegernsee and Forggensee to the Altmühlsee, Bavaria has a wide selection of lakes where you can spend your naturist camping holiday. Swimming fun is guaranteed in the clear water, especially in the mountains.
If you want to actively explore the waters of Bavaria, you can enjoy one of the many local water sports. On many lakes, it is possible to book sailing courses or hire a boat on presentation of a valid licence. Windsurfing and kitesurfing are also becoming increasingly popular on Bavaria's lakes.
Throughout Bavaria there are exquisite holiday and spa resorts where you can relax with healing thermal baths, massages and mud packs. The Rhön and Saale region, for example, with spas such as Bad Neustadt and Bad Kissingen, is well known. In the Bavarian Forest, Bodenmais is a worthwhile destination with its climatic healing gallery in the Silberberg.
Customs are very important in Bavaria. At the festivities at the beginning of spring around 1 May and at the October festivals, you can experience traditional brass band music, dances such as the Schuhplattler and sample traditional food from veal sausage to pork knuckle.
Traditional music at village and town festivals, cattle drives and much more await travellers on a camping holiday in Bavaria.
