Wake up at a campsite by the sea, open the door of your caravan, breathe in the fresh Baltic Sea breeze and immediately set off with your dog for a morning walk along the pleasantly rushing water: That's camping in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. In the south of the region, pet owners can hike through fresh forests with their beloved four-legged friends, play together on lush green meadows and swim in one of the refreshing lakes.
When camping with your dog in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, you should take a closer look at the Ostseecamp Rostocker Heide in the municipality of Graal-Müritz. This is located in a coastal protection forest on the Baltic Sea with a long and wide sandy beach. There is not only a separate section for naturists, but also a separate dog beach. The exceptionally good water quality is perfect for swimming, and cycling and hiking trails are ideal for sporting excursions with your animal companion. There are also a few extras for children at Ostseecamp Rostocker Heide: In addition to swimming opportunities in the Baltic Sea, a playground and mini golf course can be used, and children's entertainment is on the programme in high season. Adults will enjoy the wellness facilities with sauna and solarium, and holidaymakers of all ages will feel at home in the modern sanitary facilities. The facilities at Ostseecamp Rostocker Heide are complemented by a wide range of shopping opportunities and the campsite's own fish smokehouse.
Another dog-friendly campsite in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern is Campingpark Havelberge, located directly on the shores of Lake Woblitz near Userin. In addition to the general swimming area on the lake with a sandy bay, sunbathing lawn and bathing island, the multi-award-winning site also has a separate dog beach. There is even a professional dog trainer on site for an instructive lesson or two with your four-legged friend. The extensive water sports centre at Havelberge Camping Park offers organised canoe tours, water hikes and fishing courses for beginners, for example. There are also guided hiking and cycling excursions for active travellers as well as a forest high ropes course with a children's course. For the little ones, there is also a playground, a trampoline and a separate children's area by the eco-bathing pond.
Excursions with dogs are not only possible in parks. Mecklenburg-Vorpommern also offers numerous destinations for active holidaymakers and culture lovers.
In the amber foam factory Ostsee-Schmuck in Damgarten, you can experience the interesting jewellery production in the workshop or marvel at the huge selection of amber jewellery in the sales exhibition. The pyramid-shaped building is impressive even from the outside. Visitors can even try their hand at working the amber jewellery themselves. Dogs are also welcome on a lead on the premises.
In Mecklenburg-Vorpommern's largest zoo in the city of Stralsund, dogs on leads are also allowed. Stralsund Zoo is home to a farm with horses, donkeys, chickens and geese, among other animals. Of course, the 150 or so different species also include exotic animals such as lions, chimpanzees, bears and bison. For the children, there is a playground with a carousel and a petting enclosure where they can feed the goats, among other things.
There is a lot to discover in the Western Pomerania Lagoon National Park: beautiful beaches, picturesque dunes, tranquil forests, impressive waters and a diverse flora and fauna enrich the natural scenery. The Baltic Sea stretches north of the national park, while vast lagoons such as the Saaler Bodden lie to the south. Exciting impressions on long walks with your dog are guaranteed for both two and four-legged friends.
The small town of Burg Stargard is home to the eponymous fortress from the 13th century, which can be marvelled at from the outside with your dog. Pets are also welcome on the castle grounds: The medieval root and herb garden, the castle park with an oak tree that is at least 500 years old and the orchard meadow with its wide fields invite you to take a look around. Of course, the tour also gives you an impression of the fascinating architecture of the eleven castle buildings.
The holiday region of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern offers wonderful events in nature all year round: from dog days in the wildlife park to hikes and cycle tours.
