A camping holiday by the Baltic Sea on the beautiful island of Rügen is relaxing and varied for dog owners and their four-legged friends. The dog-friendly campsites here are located between green meadows, neighbouring pine forests and beautiful nature close to the sandy beaches. Many of the campsite operators have already "got the dog" and welcome guests accompanied by their furry friends. Whether it's surfing, hiking or a beach chair, the nature campsites on Rügen also offer dogs a nice change of pace.
There are many leisure activities for dogs and their owners on the holiday island of Rügen. Follow your dog's nose across the whole island: through the sand dunes and forest areas, along the well-signposted paths of the hiking network or across the waters of the Baltic Sea.
Around the island of Rügen, there are many opportunities for beach lovers and water sports enthusiasts - including sailing, surfing and kitesurfing. A dog-friendly campsite is located close to the water and offers a wide range of leisure activities for dogs and their owners. Individual courses are offered here for beginners to advanced and water sports equipment can be hired in many places. After a little practice, the dog can come on board and have fun.
In the south-east of Rügen lies the Granitz nature reserve, a lush forest area with a rich variety of species and interesting flora and fauna. The bioreserve covers almost 1,000 hectares and is located in the region between Sellin and Binz. The Granitz nature reserve and the romantic Granitz hunting lodge are home to a large number of burial mounds and megalithic tombs. Regular hikes to the hunting lodge are organised for visitors. Moonlight hikes through the forest are also popular with guests. The Granitz hiking and cycling trails are tried and tested and well signposted - a recommended tour for dogs, which should be kept on a lead to avoid following the hunting instinct.
A day trip on the "Rasenden Roland", an old restored steam locomotive, is an experience for the whole family. The well-maintained vintage train travels from Gören across the island through the forests of Rügen, passes Binz and ends its journey in the north of the island. In between, guests can get off to go sightseeing, continue to the next stage or return along the same route in the evening. Real fun for young and old - and the dog can come along for the ride.
Entertaining events take place all over the island. There is something for every taste: from live music to colourful markets and folk festivals.
