Croatia has a total of 1,244 islands in the Adriatic Sea, so it is not surprising that there are many islands with dream beaches and fabulous bays. Many remote but easily accessible islands are ideal for naturist camping and Mediterranean island camping. The variety of landscapes always provides the right ambience for sun worshippers and nature lovers.
The Croatian islands are world-famous for their breathtaking coasts with crystal clear and azure blue sea. Many of the campsites on the Croatian islands are located close to the beach and are therefore ideal for camping on the beach. Typical of the whole of Croatia, by the way, are the beaches of round-washed pebbles, which dominate not only on the mainland but also on islands such as Krk, Hvar or Cres.
Many well-connected islands that are easy to reach by boat make for great beach holidays with varied landscapes. The towns and villages on the islands are characterised by interesting architecture with Venetian, Roman and Greek influences. Freshly caught, regional specialities from the depths of the Adriatic make camping on the Croatian islands the perfect experience.
Travellers who don't have to follow the school holidays are recommended to go camping on the Croatian islands during the low season. From May to June and from September to October, pleasant sunny days await you, allowing you to swim and sunbathe in a relaxed atmosphere. What's more, all facilities and shops are open or still open at these times and you don't have to queue for long. The end of spring and beginning of autumn are also the best times for mountain biking, hiking or rafting, with wonderfully mild weather.
During the high season from July to August, there is a lot going on and prices can rise sharply in some places. On the other hand, the weather is hot and there is a vibrant nightlife and many open-air festivals and events. The low season from November to April promises peace and quiet and cooler weather. Low prices and getting to know authentic island life offer interesting opportunities.
