When camping on the Fischland-Darß-Zingst Baltic Sea peninsula, you can expect fine sandy beaches, rugged cliffs, idyllic fishing villages and lively seaside resorts with bustling promenades. Whether in a motorhome, mobile home, caravan or in a tent on the Baltic Sea beach: Germany's most beautiful peninsula on the Baltic Sea is perfect for camping enthusiasts looking for an individual holiday. At PiNCAmp you will find the best places!
There are campsites for every taste in Darß: from small but fine nature campsites to luxury campsites with comfortable pitches right on the Baltic Sea beach. The following sites are very popular with travellers and receive many good reviews on PiNCAMP.
The almost 1.5-kilometre-long beach at the Regenbogen Prerow campsite has its own section for naturists. However, this is not the only plus point of the site directly behind the beach dunes. The exceptionally beautifully situated pitches are spread over a total area of 36 hectares. Boat and bike hire, a diving and surfing school, a children's playground, entertainment and a snack bar ensure carefree and eventful days at Camping Regenbogen Prerow.
Ostseecamp Dierhagen is one of the most beautiful places to visit on the Fischland-Darß-Zingst peninsula. The camping village impresses with its very comprehensive facilities: shower, washing machine, tumble dryer, wash basin, baby changing room, WC and children's playground are just as much a matter of course as the surf school and the snack bar for culinary delights. In addition to pitches with electricity, the hosts also offer tent pitches for a quiet overnight stay under the stars.
The area of just six hectares is really optimally utilised at Camping am Freesenbruch. You will find spacious pitches and modern sanitary facilities with classic equipment such as a washing machine, a washbasin for laundry, a tumble dryer, a baby changing room, WC and a shower. There is also a horse-riding centre directly on site. The wellness treatments, sauna and massage facilities are particularly popular. Thanks to bike hire and a sports programme, active holidaymakers are also well catered for here.
As the name suggests, wellness is the absolute focus of the hosts at this campsite. Sauna, indoor pool, wellness and numerous spa options are part of the comprehensive service. You can spend the night on a classic pitch or in a mobile home, rental caravan or on the tent pitch, which can be booked by campers without their own motorhome. Another plus: only a few of the numerous pitches are reserved for permanent campers.
Experience pure nature at this beautiful campsite on the fine sandy western beach of Prerow. You can spend the night at Meißners Sonnencamp either on a pitch, in a rented caravan or in one of the well-equipped holiday homes with their own bathroom and toilet. You can also camp here and dog owners can of course take their four-legged companions with them on holiday to the Baltic Sea.
Camping on the Darß is worthwhile at any time of year. However, most holidaymakers spend their Baltic Sea holiday on the peninsula in summer. This is the time for water lovers and the warm Baltic Sea on the Darß is perfect for swimming and water sports. Many of the campsites in Darß are located directly on the Baltic Sea, so you can jump straight from your caravan into the cool water or relax on the fine sandy beach. Camping Regenbogen Prerow, Camping am Freesenbruch or Wellness Camp Düne 6, for example, have their own access to the beach. In some cases, you can also hire beach chairs, sunbeds and parasols.
The pitches on the camping parks usually offer an electricity connection, waste water disposal and clean sanitary buildings with washbasins, tumble dryers and showers with hot water. If you are travelling to Darß without your own tent or motorhome, you can spend the night in a mobile home or rental caravan at many campsites or make use of the caravan hire service. Some sites also offer separate motorhome pitches outside the barrier.
The larger campsites usually offer a large leisure programme with children's entertainment, guided beach walks or water sports courses, such as sailing. There is usually also a bike hire centre nearby - perfect for exploring the beautiful peninsula on the many well-developed cycle paths. Horse riding tours through the heathland or carriage rides are also popular with horse lovers. The campsite operators can provide information about horse riding opportunities.
There is an abundance of sea and beach in Darß. But the peninsula also has much more to offer. A large part of the region consists of the "Vorpommersche Boddenlandschaft" National Park - a unique natural landscape that is best explored on the numerous hiking trails, cycle paths and nature trails. Darß shows a completely different side with its numerous pretty Baltic Sea spas. Here, tradition is combined with modernity in a lively way.
Prerow, probably the most prominent Baltic seaside resort, is just as varied as the Darß itself. Although the town is particularly known for the lively hustle and bustle on the long promenade and the solid pier, you will also find quiet oases here. For example, you can relax wonderfully in the coastal forest near Prerow North Beach or on one of the idyllic stretches of beach along Prerow Bay. Prerow's west beach is particularly popular: this unspoilt beach is one of the most beautiful beaches in Germany and is also accessible to dogs. Prerow also boasts a number of entertaining excursion destinations for young and old. In the Natureum, a branch of the German Oceanographic Museum, visitors can, for example, interactively explore exciting questions such as the age of the primeval forest or the appearance of harbour porpoises.
Another well-known Baltic seaside resort in the region is Zingst. The town has a wide sandy beach and a bustling promenade where you will find bars and restaurants as well as many small shops to browse through. If you are looking for some entertainment, Zingst is the place to be, as many events such as concerts and theatre performances take place here, especially in the summer months.
Things are a little quieter in the romantic little town of Born. The state-recognised resort is located right on the edge of the Vorpommersche Boddenlandschaft National Park and is ideal for exploring the island. Born is particularly popular with walkers, as the village can be walked over 4.5 kilometres from the Saaler Bodden in the west to the Koppelstrom on its southern side.
Darß offers many opportunities to relax. Either in a cosy way with the many wellness offers, actively while hiking and cycling or sporty in the water.
Relax, take a deep breath and recharge your batteries - this is possible when camping on the Darß thanks to the varied and season-independent Darß wellness offers. While in summer, for example, yoga, Qigong or meditation courses are offered directly on the beach in Prerow, in winter you can relax in the Bodden-Therme Ribnitz-Damgarten with bathing fun and sauna sessions.
A cycle tour is also an option on the Darß, as the infrastructure for cyclists is very well developed in the region. A total of 205 kilometres of asphalt cycle path winds its way across the entire Darß peninsula. The well-signposted cycle route can be divided into several stages and leads over the dyke, through green forests, picturesque avenues in the coastal foothills and extensive meadows.
Kitesurfing on the Darß is even more action-packed. If you've never stood on a board in the water before, you can learn to surf and kite in a water sports centre, for example in Born or Wustrow. Experienced kiters, on the other hand, can jump straight into the fun. The almost 13-kilometre-long Weststrand Darß is one of the most popular spots for kitesurfing.
One of the main ingredients of Darß cuisine is, of course, fish. The delicacies from the sea are caught by local Baltic Sea fishermen and then served fresh. All the fish that the Baltic Sea and Bodden have to offer end up on the table, including eel, plaice, salmon, sea trout, garfish and cod. The most typical regional fish dish is Bodden zander. It is fried and then served with side dishes such as mashed winter truffles or fried potato salad.
In the summer months, the weather on the Darß is usually pleasantly warm, with average temperatures between 19 and 22°C. If you want to venture into the cool waters of the Baltic Sea, you have the best opportunity to do so between June and the beginning of September. During this period, the water temperature is between 17 and 20°C, which is warm enough to splash around for a while or go for a swim. The average temperature in spring and autumn is between 6 and 12°C. It is of course colder in the winter months, although the weather forecast on the Darß only rarely reports frost and snowfall.
