The Moselle valley stretches from the mouth of the Saar near Konz all the way up to Cochem and delights visitors with its green landscapes. In this region, the river meanders between gentle hills towards the Rhine. There are a number of recreational resorts along the route, such as Traben-Trarbach and Bernkastel-Kues with exquisite campsites.

Special features of camping in the Moselle Valley

Holidaymakers can enjoy pure nature on a trip to one of the campsites in the Moselle Valley. Here, families and holidaymakers can camp against the backdrop of picturesque vineyards, where some of the best grapes in Germany are grown. The fine wines can be tasted in one of the wine shops in Traben-Trarbach, Bernkastel-Kues or Trier. A hiking excursion to the region's most important winegrowers is also worthwhile.

Leisure-oriented holidaymakers like to take the Moselle cycle path, which follows the banks of the river and guarantees fantastic impressions of the Moselle meanders. During a stopover in Trier, a stroll through Germany's oldest city should be on the programme. Worth seeing are the Roman Porta Nigra, the ancient thermal baths and the amphitheatre.

Best time to visit

In summer, temperatures in the Moselle Valley are pleasantly warm. The mercury usually reaches a maximum daily average of 23 degrees Celsius. Sometimes the values are even significantly higher. The hottest months are July and August. There is also comparatively little rainfall during this period.

The spring and autumn months are also suitable for hiking and cycling tours. In April, May and June, you can expect maximum temperatures of between 13 and 21 degrees Celsius. Those travelling in September can look forward to 20 degrees Celsius - in October, a maximum of 14 degrees Celsius is typical. In autumn, excursionists can also look forward to the beautiful foliage colours on tours through the forests away from the Moselle.
