In the middle of the magnificent Tyrolean mountains, camping in the Zillertal is ideal for hiking and mountain biking tours on excellently signposted trails. In between, guests can stop off at one of the 150 rustic mountain huts and enjoy Tyrolean hospitality. Families will have a great time on the Alpine Coaster or in the adventure playgrounds high up on the Spieljoch.
Around 40 kilometres east of the Tyrolean capital of Innsbruck, the Zillertal branches off as a side valley of the mighty River Inn. Between the Tux and Kitzbühel Alps, there are idyllic campsites in the Zillertal, which stretches from Strass to beyond Mayrhofen. Some of the campsites are located in the immediate vicinity of the mountain railways, which provide easy access to the Austrian peaks.
Other courses are located directly on the banks of the river of the same name. The flat, family-friendly Zillertal cycle path runs along here. There are even pitches for caravans and motorhomes in the heart of the Zillertal Alps Nature Park. The nature reserve stretches from the mighty Reichspitze in the east over the main Alpine ridge in the south to the 3,470 metre-high Olperer in the west.
The versatile camping options in the Alpine paradise of Zillertal guarantee travellers numerous advantages. Wonderful pitches with a mountain panorama are naturally included at Erlebnis Comfort Camping Aufenfeld, Camping Mayrhofen, Campingdorf Hofer and Camping Hochzillertal in Kaltenbach. Decide for yourself: Bathing fun or winter camping, hiking or wellness - the campsites in the valley fulfil a wide range of requirements.
The campsites in the region meet the highest standards and provide comprehensive services to ensure that guests really feel at home. Whether for one night or for several days - there is a wide range of pitches with marvellous views.
Erlebnis Comfort Camping Aufenfeld is listed on PiNCAMP as an ADAC super site with five stars. Situated below a wooded mountain slope, the site offers every conceivable comfort. The highlight is certainly the 4,000 square metre artificial swimming lake with waterfall. The modern sanitary cabins, the numerous children's playgrounds and the wide range of leisure activities make the Comfort Camping Aufenfeld experience a small Alpine paradise for families. Thanks to the ski lift, ski bus and cross-country ski trails, the site is also perfectly equipped for winter camping.
Camping Mayrhofen in the village of the same name offers its guests a breathtaking view of the mountains and the Zillertal valley. Each pitch at this campsite has a connection for electricity and a waste water connection. The annual campsite, which only takes a break in November, boasts a pool for swimming, a sauna, a comprehensive wellness programme, a sanitary cabin for guests with limited mobility and Wi-Fi throughout the site. For these facilities, Camping Mayrhofen has been awarded four out of five stars by both the ADAC and guests.
Campingdorf Hofer is a fully equipped site with beautiful green areas and shady deciduous trees. Guided hikes and cycle tours as well as the Feng Shui theme trail are popular with campers. The pitches with electricity, the outdoor pool and the winter sports facilities are further advantages of the Hofer camping village.
Camping Hochzillertal in Kaltenbach, Camping Hell and Inntal are alternative sites in the Zillertal.
The climate in the Zillertal is characterised by large temperature differences. While temperatures of up to 30 degrees Celsius are measured in the beautiful outdoor pools or at the Schlitters bathing lake in summer, it is freezing cold in winter. The warmest month is July with an average maximum temperature of around 24 degrees Celsius.
Due to the inner-Alpine climate, short periods of rainfall can occur at any time in summer. On average, it rains every other day in June, July and August. It is worth taking waterproof clothing with you when camping in the Zillertal. In the sunniest months from April to September, the sun shines from the sky for 6 to 7 hours a day.
