One of the most famous sights in Prerow is the lighthouse. The building is located in Darßer Ort and rises over 35 metres into the sky. The tower and keeper's house were built of brick in the middle of the 19th century. 134 steps lead up to the viewing platform. Attached to the mighty monument to seafaring is the Natureum, a museum dedicated to the flora and fauna of the Darß.
The Seamen's Church was built in the centre of Prerow as early as 1728. The brick nave and the massive wooden tower are striking. Inside are model boats that were donated in gratitude for being rescued from distress at sea. Holidaymakers reach the beach with the Prerow pier through a small wooded area. This juts almost 400 metres into the Baltic Sea and is the venue for the pier festival at the end of May and beginning of June.
In summer, Prerow's open-air theatre on the banks of the Prerow Stream is well worth a visit. Every year, spa concerts with classical music and shanty choirs put both travellers and locals in a good mood.
If you want to find out more about the region, visit the Darß Museum with exhibits on local animals and traditional fishing. Several boats are on display in the garden. The techniques used to build these boats are explained in detail here. Attached to the house is the Amber Museum. The most beautiful finds of fossilised resin from the Darß are exhibited there.
Many holidaymakers use the bike hire service in Prerow to explore the Darß peninsula. Possible tours lead to the eastern tip with its majestic dunes. You can also explore the Vorpommersche Boddenlandschaft National Park in one day on a round trip. It is worth stopping for a picnic on one of the secluded beaches or in one of the sparse groves in the middle of the pine-covered coastal forests. If you are travelling with your pet, it is best to visit Prerow's dog beach, which is located east of the pier. The many forests just behind the sandy coast are ideal for hiking. These extend around the Prerow stream, among other places.

Fish is a natural favourite on the North German Baltic coast. Many of the catches come from the areas in the south of the Fischland-Darß-Zingst peninsula. Tender meat that is gently cooked or steamed makes the Boddenzander a popular local speciality.
When camping in Prerow, you can stop off at one of the restaurants and order this delicacy with potatoes and dill sauce. If you want to try smoked fish - eels, mackerel and halibut, for example - then the producers are the right place for you. The smoked goods are sold directly in the ambience of rustic fishermen's huts. The flavoursome morsels are a recommended snack with wine and beer in the evening.
In addition to seafood, stews are also typical of the region. Spicy solyanka, lilac berry soup and potato soup with plums and bacon are classics in the north of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. Gourmets should also try the combination of baked pears, beans and bacon. In the winter months, rib roast with apples, plums and rusks is very popular.
Some of the restaurants in Prerow also prepare this dish in summer. For dessert, locals and holidaymakers alike indulge in sea buckthorn sorbet.
