Comfort-Camp Eider
Comfort-Camp Eider

The wide and 12 km long beach in front of St. Peter-Ording offers enough space for bathers, walkers, surfers and beach sailors. Take a bike ride along the dyke to the beautiful Westerhever lighthouse during the day and relax on the terrace of a rustic pile dwelling at sunset in the evening. You can fly kites with the whole family or explore the mudflats - the Wadden Sea National Park has a lot to offer.

Special features of camping on Eiderstedt

There are several campsites on Eiderstedt for those looking to be close to the sea. In St. Peter-Ording, some are located directly behind the dyke. If you also want to be close to the spa centre, numerous restaurants and shops, the Ording or Dorf districts are ideal. They are adjacent to the central spa and bathing resort of St. Peter-Bad. Here you can also listen to concerts on the promenade or experience surfing and beach volleyball events.

The Böhl district is quieter and more unspoilt. From here it is not far to the south beach. There is also a choice of places to stay in historic Tönning on the River Eider and in Friedrichstadt, which was built by the Dutch and delights culture lovers with its gabled houses, canals and bridges.

Weather

You should like the wind. It usually blows fresh from the north-west and brings some rain clouds with it. But it also makes for great waves and the fascinating North German light. When camping on Eiderstedt, it is best to choose a pitch that is sheltered from the wind. The water temperature in summer is between 16 and 19 degrees Celsius and rarely rises above 20 degrees Celsius.

The best time to visit is from June to September with an average of 7-8 hours of sunshine and temperatures of over 15 degrees Celsius during the day. The warmest month is August with temperatures of just under 20 degrees Celsius. It can also rain from time to time, but rapid weather changes are typical for the coast. The sun is usually not long in coming.
