The metropolis of Rome is the beating heart of Italy and awaits visitors in the central Italian region of Lazio in the Tiber Valley. It is not far from the campsites in Rome to the famous sights. On a sightseeing tour, guests can marvel at the numerous relics from antiquity or visit the imposing St Peter's Basilica. Camping in Rome offers children the opportunity to let off steam in the great outdoors. Animal lovers can go for long walks while camping with their dog or visit other fantastic recreational areas.
The campsites in Rome are located outside the city centre, often close to forests or the mighty River Tiber. The region is known for its picturesque pine forests, which provide natural shade when camping in Rome. In some of the extensive areas, pet owners have their own dog parks for their four-legged companions. The pitches with their parcelling out are wonderful retreats for relaxing. Examples of this are Camping Village Flaminio, Roma Camping with pool and Camping Village Seven Hills. Pitches at selected sites can be booked on Pincamp to guarantee carefree travel planning. Families who want to combine a seaside holiday with a cultural trip like to opt for the campsites on the Mediterranean, just 30 km from the city centre. Active guests can reach the well-developed Tiber cycle path from the campsites by the river north of the city centre. Families, those seeking peace and quiet and sports enthusiasts can enjoy a holiday in beautiful natural surroundings at Lago di Bracciano, which is less than an hour's drive from the centre of Rome.
There are idyllic campsites in the immediate vicinity of the metropolis of Rome that can serve as a base for exploring the city. Fully equipped, you can spend a few carefree days in these wonderful places.

The distance between Berlin and Rome is almost 1500 kilometres, from Frankfurt am Main around 1200 kilometres and from Munich around 900 kilometres. The journey is via Switzerland or Austria. It should be borne in mind that motorway toll stickers are compulsory in both countries. If you order a motorway tax sticker from a German automobile club before setting off, you can save yourself a stop after crossing the border. From Frankfurt am Main, the route takes you to Basel via the A6 and later the A5. From here, continue along the A2 motorway on the Swiss side to the border crossing into Italy at Chiasso. The affordable hotels in Milan, for example, are ideal for an overnight stay. From here it is still around 570 kilometres to Rome. The next major city to be reached is Bologna, where holidaymakers who choose to travel via Austria also pass by, for example from Munich via the A8 and A93 to the Austrian border at Kufstein. The route runs right through Tyrol on the A13 Brenner motorway. In Italy, this motorway becomes the A22 and leads past Lake Garda via Modena to Bologna. The European route 45 runs straight on to Rome. For all campers without their own vehicle, travelling by plane is a good option. A carefree arrival at most campsites is guaranteed by airport shuttles.
Hardly any other city has such an abundance of world-famous buildings and historical cultural treasures as Rome. But the charming surroundings also invite visitors to go on excursions.
The historic centre of Rome was quite rightly declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site: after all, one relic from the past follows the next. The famous archaeological sites of ancient buildings are located within the Aurelian Walls. A stroll through the Roman Forum or a visit to the mighty Colosseum brings history to life, while Rome also has the most churches in the world in one city. The famous St Peter's Basilica, whose imposing dome can be seen from afar, is part of the Vatican City in the centre of Rome. The world-famous Sistine Chapel with its ornate paintings by Michelangelo is well worth a visit. Meet up at the Spanish Steps before going shopping in the boutiques on the nearby Via Condotti.
If you want to relax for a day after an extensive sightseeing tour, head to the beaches just 30 km from the centre. The Lido di Ostia is particularly easy to reach. The Lago di Bracciano to the west of Rome is also a great place to cool off. Numerous beaches, such as the Spiaggia di Lungolago Argenti near the town of Bracciano, invite you to splash around.
Roman restaurants serve dishes that are known all over the world but have their origins in the Eternal City. These include the creamy spaghetti carbonara with bacon, egg and savoury cheese. Even in ancient times, the typical menu consisted of delicious starters such as the cheese pâté moretum, followed by pasta as a first course and meat or fish dishes such as stewed veal saltimbocca.
The cool ice cream gelato tastes great for dessert. The coffee culture is also legendary: whether espresso, cappuccino or caffé corretto with a shot of grappa - locals prefer to drink their coffee at the counter of the small cafés. Campsites such as Camping Village Flaminio or Camping Village Seven Hills have their own restaurants where you can savour the local delicacies.
As some campsites are also open in winter and the climate is mild, camping in Rome and the Tiber Valley is possible at any time of year. Even in the coldest months of December to February, temperatures can reach up to 13 degrees Celsius on sunny days. As it gets wet relatively often during the cold season, rain protection is recommended. The months of March to June and September and October are suitable for extended sightseeing with maximum temperatures between 16 and 28 degrees Celsius. July and August are the hottest months, when visitors are drawn to the sea. From June to October, you can expect water temperatures of 20 degrees Celsius and above, which is suitable for swimming.
