At the spa campsite in Italy, the body is pampered with exceptional healing mud masks or particularly pleasant massages. To mobilise and strengthen the joints, holidaymakers take part in aqua aerobics and visit the fitness centre. To stimulate the circulation, they can take a walk along the sea and inhale the fresh air or spend time in the detoxifying sauna instead.

Holiday destinations

Most holidaymakers associate Italy with sun, beach and sea. But in addition to the wide, white beaches, romantic bays and clear, lapping waters, there is much more to discover: charming villages, idyllic national parks, breathtaking lakes, green hilly landscapes with vineyards and vast mountain ranges. The province of Padua, for example, is known for the Euganean Hills. This region includes the town of Montegrotto Terme, where the Camping Sporting Centre is located. This campsite has a spa centre with aquagym, massages, fango mud, which is applied in the form of masks or baths, and a medical bathing department. To the north of Padua, near the Austrian border, is the town of Merano in the Ötztal Alps. Picturesque valleys and impressive mountains adorn the landscape here. Camping Merano is a very centrally located campsite: the site itself does not offer any spa facilities, but you can reach the Merano Thermal Baths in around 10 minutes on foot. The spa has an extensive sauna world - including steam baths, a South Tyrolean organic hay sauna and a Finnish log cabin sauna. Health and well-being are promoted by the thermal water baths, thermal cures with inhalations, a wide range of fitness programmes, physiotherapy and much more. Those who prefer to spend their time at the seaside when spa camping in Italy should take a closer look at Camping Mirage, for example. This resort is located in the west of the country on the island of Ischia in Lido dei Maronti. Camping Mirage is located in a bay with a sandy beach and there are several thermal baths nearby, such as the Olympus Hydrotherm.

Top tips

  • There are numerous thermal springs in Italy that are open to the public and can be used free of charge. For example, the thermal baths in Petriolo in Tuscany, which are surrounded by trees in the middle of nature: several pools made of stones and rocks filled with mineral-rich warm water invite you to linger. The spring also has a high sulphur content, which leads to an intense odour but has many positive effects on health.
  • The free healing spring at Piscine Carletti in Lazio can also be recommended for spa camping in Italy. This natural spa also consists of several pools and the water has a health-promoting effect thanks to the trace elements and mineral salts it contains. The Piscine Carletti thermal spring also has a green area for relaxation and can be visited 24 hours a day.

Activities and excursions

Spa camping in Italy is often enriched by a day trip or two: Beneficial activities in the beautiful natural surroundings are ideal to complement the healing effects of the spa programmes.

Sport, relaxation and culture all in one go

Italy is not only known for its enchanting sea, but also for its marvellous lakes such as Lake Garda. It is the largest of its kind in Italy and is perfect for swimming and sunbathing as well as a variety of water sports: Particularly unusual activities on the water - such as flyboarding, parasailing and water skiing - are offered in the municipality of Lazise, for example. Culture vultures and romantics can take a boat trip to Isola del Garda, which is home to a fairytale villa in neo-Gothic style and a paradisiacal botanical park.

A region bursting with diversity

Abruzzo in central Italy is characterised in the east by wide beaches and the attractive Adriatic Sea and in the west by the magnificent Sirente and Monte Velino mountains. On the coast, for example, you should pay a visit to the so-called Trabocchi near the harbour town of Ortona: These interesting pile dwellings extend from the shore far into the sea. They are often home to romantic restaurants with a view of the vast blue horizon. More active holidaymakers can take a bike tour on the Corridoio Verde cycle path or explore the landscape on the water by canoe. Those who prefer mountaineering, hiking, climbing or mountain biking can enjoy a day trip in the Abruzzo hinterland. Vast fields and forests as well as impressive mountains await holidaymakers here. The small mountain town of Sulmona is particularly worth a visit: Among other things, this is located between the Abruzzo National Park and the Majella National Park. It also boasts some amazing sights, such as the church of San Gaetano and the aqueduct. The municipality of Caramanico Terme is rich in sulphur and mineral oil springs and is also recommended as an excursion destination for spa camping.

Events

Cultural, sporting and nature-related events are one or two of the highlights of spa camping in Italy.

January

  • New Year's jump into Lake Garda: The New Year is welcomed in Riva del Garda with a jump into the cold waters of Lake Garda.

February - March

  • Venice Carnival: This world-famous carnival delights visitors with events, street performers, beautiful masks and much more.

June

  • Luminaria di San Ranieri: During this festival in honour of San Ranieri, Pisa is illuminated by candlelight and the following day there are numerous events, such as a circular regatta.

August

  • Torta dei Fieschi: To commemorate the wedding of Count Opizzo Fieschi, Lavagna celebrates in medieval costume.
