Travelling

When travelling to the Netherlands, please note that the speed limit on motorways is 130 km/h. A maximum of 80 km/h is permitted on country roads. It makes sense to refuel in Germany, as fuel is cheaper there. From Hamburg, you can reach Callantsoog, 450 kilometres away, by first taking the A1 motorway. At the motorway junction 58a-Dreieck Stuhr, continue on the A28/E22 towards Oldenburg/Delmenhorst. Here you can make a first stop at the Groß-Mackenstedt motorway service area. In addition to a 24-hour shop, toilet and shower facilities and a restaurant, this service area also has a games arcade and a hotel. After about 100 km, keep left and join the A31 motorway. Keep right at motorway junction 14-Dreieck Bunde and change to the A280/E22 towards Bunde-West/Groningen. Here, about 100 kilometres after the first stop, you can take a break and catch your breath before crossing the border into the Netherlands. Then continue on the A7 and the N7 to exit 14-Den Oever. Here take the N99 in the direction of Den Oever/Den Helder. Follow the N99 for 30 km and you have reached Callantsoog - your holiday at the campsite can begin.

Activities and excursions

Camping in Callantsoog offers leisure activities for the physically active, families with children and history buffs.

Swimming fun for everyone

Travelling with children, maybe even with a dog. Travelling alone or in a larger group? Everyone will find a spot on Callantsoog's kilometre-long beach, which is on average 100 metres wide. There is always enough wind, so you can kitesurf or fly a kite here. Beach sailing and horse riding are also very popular leisure activities here on the beach. The Kiefteglop beach access, one of the four entrances to the Callantsoog beach, provides access to the bathing area for lovers of naturism.

A visit to the Tante Jaantje local history museum

Over 100 years ago, 13 farms formed the village centre of Callantsoog. The Tante Jaantje local history museum is the last remaining of the farms. Visitors can gain an impression of people's lives back then and an overview of historical events.

De Goudvis amusement park in Sint Maartenszee

Children particularly enjoy a trip to De Goudvis amusement park in Sint Maartenszee - the insider tip for rainy days. A play garden and various indoor play paradises await visitors of all ages. Whether climbing, trampolining or karting - there are plenty of opportunities for the little ones to let off steam.

Gastronomy

Breakfast in Holland is relatively sweet. Hagelslag, i.e. butter rolls with chocolate sprinkles or chocolate flakes, are a favourite. Syrup waffles or the savoury peanut butter pindakaas are also popular. In Holland, people tend to eat a more moderate lunch. For example, herring in a roll, the so-called Haring, deep-fried balls of beef ragout, the Kroket or the mini pancakes Poffertjes with butter and sugar. The freshly caught fish from the nutrient-rich coastal waters of the North Sea is particularly noteworthy. For example, deep-fried cod, the kibbeling. Plaice, golden perch and mackerel are also popular in Holland. Dinner is the main meal and is usually served warm. Elaborate dishes with potatoes, gravy, vegetables and meat are served. In addition to regional dishes, Dutch cuisine naturally also offers a wide variety of international dishes.

Best time to visit

The healing effect of the pure, salt-rich North Sea air makes camping in Callantsoog a special experience. The camping parks open their doors at the beginning of April and close at the end of November. Outside of this period, it is often too cold for many of the other activities that the resort has to offer. Callantshoog is at its warmest from June to September. August is the warmest month with temperatures of up to 22 °C. However, it is also rainier from July to November. The North Sea in Callantsoog reaches its highest water temperature of around 20 °C from July to September. In April and November, the sea is just under 13 °C for the bravest of swimmers.
