Camping in the Netherlands has a lot to offer families: The kilometres of sandy beaches in Zeeland or on the North Sea islands are perfect for splashing around and playing. Many campsites are located directly by the sea. The inland lake Ijsselmeer is also a paradise for swimmers. Flat, family-friendly cycle paths lead past picturesque windmills and fragrant flowerbeds. A boat trip on the canals in Amsterdam is fun for young and old.

GoodThe North Sea coast in particular offers good conditions for a camping holiday in the Netherlands. South of Amsterdam and in the area around The Hague, for example, you will find excellent beaches for a leisure-oriented holiday. We also recommend the West Frisian Islands with their picturesque dunes. If you feel like it, you can set off on a sailing trip on the IJsselmeer during your stay.
Camping on the North Sea coast: The beautiful North Sea coast with its countless beaches is one of the most popular reasons for choosing a holiday with children in the Netherlands. They can really let off steam with swimming fun, digging on the beach and sporting activities. Parents can take a cosy beach chair and relax completely. Many campsites have their own sections of beach with additional facilities. Surfing and kitesurfing schools, boat hire and much more contribute significantly to families spending carefree hours on the beach.
**West Frisian Island with Texel: ** The West Frisian Islands, and Texel in particular, are an extremely popular holiday destination for families. Characterised by small villages, bathing fun and beautiful beach walks can be combined here. The Flora Shipwreck and Beachcomber Museum between Den Burg and De Koog is a special highlight for children, who are sure to want to go on a treasure hunt on the beach afterwards.
**Amsterdam: ** No camper or family should miss out on Amsterdam. The vibrant metropolis is full of sights and experiences for the whole family. We recommend a trip on a sightseeing bus to really get to know all the museums, buildings and sights. Alternatively, a tour by bike or a trip through the city's canals is well worthwhile.
**Giethoorn: ** There is something magical about the village of Giethoorn. Cars are banned here and it is criss-crossed by numerous canals. The thatched-roof houses and tranquil gardens are beautiful to look at and contribute greatly to the tranquillity. The cosy gardens in combination with the friendly residents contribute to Giethoorn's increasing popularity.
**Cheese town Gouda: ** Leerdam, Maasdam and Edam are Dutch towns that are well known for their famous cheeses. Gouda is no exception, but this beautiful metropolis is a special destination for families. Between April and August, a delicious cheese market is held every Thursday and the numerous small shops exude a very special charm. Here, children come into contact with the production process and can sample lots of cheese.
**Julianadorp: Julianadorp takes campers back to the sea, but the town is not only known for its beaches. The famous Dutch flowers and tulips grow here, transforming some areas into a veritable sea of flowers. This is an impressive sight, especially in spring. In the Floratuin, visitors can learn more about the flowers and buy their own bulbs for the coming year.
**Deventer: ** If you want to immerse yourself in the history of the Netherlands, Deventer is the place to go. First mentioned around 808, the city can look back on a long history of settlement and many reminders of the past have been preserved to this day. The historic alleyways with their brick houses are just as interesting as the harbour promenade. Families should definitely try the Deventer spice and honey cake, for which the city is nationally renowned.
In terms of prices, the Netherlands is in the middle of the European pack. With an average price of 52.60 euros per night, Sweden, Germany and France are cheaper, but Denmark, Italy and especially Croatia are considerably more expensive. On the other hand, travelling distances are significantly shorter in the Netherlands and campers are offered a very high standard on the campsites, especially by the sea. Camping is still an affordable alternative for families, even if the choice falls on a modern and well-equipped mobile home.
Most campsites in the Netherlands present themselves in a very modern guise. Excellently planned, guests generally only have to walk very short distances to the sanitary facilities. These are very clean and of recent construction on most sites. Accordingly, campers have access to various facilities and great importance is attached to ensuring that the sanitary facilities can also be used by people with physical disabilities without any problems.
Of course, in a camper nation like the Netherlands, there are also very nature-loving campsites with somewhat fewer facilities. But here, too, attention is paid to cleanliness and hygiene.
In terms of weather, our neighbouring country is very much influenced by the North Sea due to its geographical location. The sea and the wind have a considerable influence on the weather, especially on the coast. Sometimes a little stormier and rainier than inland, the beautiful sunny days predominate in the summer months.
Further inland, the weather becomes much more continental and somewhat more stable. There is no need to worry about rapid changes in the weather here, as is the case by the sea.
The infrastructure on the campsites is excellent. Based on years of experience, the campsites have been modernised and offer a comprehensive leisure programme. One or more playgrounds for families are a matter of course. There are also entertainment programmes and fun activities for children.
Transport in the Netherlands is comparable to that in Germany. The frequency is more frequent in urban areas than in the countryside, but many sights can still be reached by public transport.
The Netherlands is an excellent destination for a camping holiday with children. The inhabitants are considered to be very child-friendly, the facilities at the campsites are top-notch and the wide range of leisure activities on offer also play their part. Even teenagers get their money's worth when camping in the Netherlands: surfing and sailing courses as well as discos and film nights are offered as leisure activities during the holidays. The Netherlands really is the proverbial family paradise!
