FabulousCamping on the Swedish Baltic Sea coast: The Baltic Sea coast in southern Sweden offers a variety of worthwhile destinations. On the one hand, culturally rich metropolises await on the shore and, on the other, beautiful sandy beaches that are simply ideal for swimming. Campsites that also offer water sports are well worth a visit, because exploring the beautiful sea by boat or practising kitesurfing has its charm. Visitors to southern Sweden should not miss out on the islands off the coast. The islands themselves are worth a trip in themselves, because spending the night here in cosy accommodation or on a pitch with a view of the sea quickly makes you forget everyday life.
**Around Malmö: Malmö is often referred to as the "Gateway to Sweden". The multicultural city is extremely lively and, with the Öresund Bridge, has a structure to offer that is unrivalled in Europe. The impressive bridge allows travellers from Denmark (Copenhagen) to travel to Sweden. The metropolis itself impresses with its many interesting museums, excellent restaurants and varied shopping opportunities. It is worth making a stop here to get to know Malmö's most beautiful sides.
**Öland: Öland is a popular destination for holidaymakers. The island is connected to the mainland by a bridge from Kalmar and has several campsites close to the beach and the sea. Öland is famous for its numerous small windmills, all of which were once in operation and can now be admired as reminders of the past. On the other hand, Öland is famous for two castles - Sollidens Slott and the ruins of Borgholm Castle. Solliden Castle is the seat of the royal family, who like to visit here in the summer months, while the Borgholm castle ruins are often used for concerts and cultural events.
**Gotland: If you have the opportunity, you should definitely travel to Gotland. The island can only be reached by ferry, but the investment in a crossing will definitely pay off. Visby, the island's capital, is a medieval town whose centre has been preserved to this day. Strolling through the beautiful alleyways, stopping off at a café or buying a souvenir in the shops is a wonderful experience. The famous knights' festival in August attracts thousands of visitors to Gotland. Travelling through the countryside on beautiful avenues is simply relaxing and guests tend to lose track of time. A visit to one of the beaches is of course a must.
**Surrounded by nature: Southern Sweden is always worth a trip, especially because of its typical Swedish natural landscape. So why not camp close to nature and give this booming form of holiday back a little of its original character. In the region, for example, Målilla is located directly on the banks of Lake Hesjön with a bathing area and pitches in the shade of the surrounding forests. Another experience is Vildmarkscamping Hätteboda, where guests can merge with nature and chop their own wood. South of Jönköping, in an area of forest and open fields, Hoks Naturcamping is well worth a visit. The small bathing area with jetty on the river bank, the idyllic pitches and the cabins epitomise Swedish cosiness.
**Kalmar: Kalmar in the south-east of Sweden exudes the charm of a harbour town. The castle, the founding place of the "Kalmar Union", is known far beyond the country's borders. The impressive building is excellently preserved and we recommend travelling back in time through the castle's rooms. The view from the castle wall will remain a lasting memory. The town centre is very lively and many small cafés and restaurants invite you to take a stroll.
**On the shores of a lake: Southern Sweden is rich in lakes. The two largest lakes in the country, Vättern and Vänern, are located in the south and are often referred to as inland seas due to their size. Åsnen and Lake Rusken are two fishing paradises where it is worth hiring a boat. Fishing enthusiasts can hope for a rich catch here.
In terms of prices, Sweden is the cheapest camping country in Europe, with an average price of 39 euros for an overnight stay on a pitch. Ultimately, there are local differences, as very natural sites only charge very low prices for a motorhome pitch. However, there are also sites with extensive facilities and services that are somewhat more expensive than the average price. In general, however, this guideline is an excellent way to plan a camping holiday in southern Sweden.
The preferences of the guests are decisive here. In southern Sweden, there are nature campsites whose facilities are not focused on toilets, showers and baby changing facilities of a high standard. Instead, you can spend the night on the shore of a beautiful lake or in the middle of the woods. Those who attach great importance to extensive sanitary facilities will have to head for somewhat larger campsites. Thanks to the filters on the portal, it is very easy to find out which campsites meet your requirements.
The weather in southern Sweden is not fundamentally different from that in northern Germany. Warm summer months characterise camping in southern Sweden, as the Swedes themselves appreciate this time of year for a stay. Due to the relatively mild winters in the south, overnight stays in the cold season are not impossible. With average summer temperatures of around 23 degrees Celsius, this can be savoured to the full. The water temperatures in the Baltic Sea and the lakes can vary considerably. The temperature of the lakes depends mainly on the depth and location.
Southern Sweden has an excellent infrastructure. There are small shops almost everywhere in the towns and villages and supermarkets with a very wide range of products in the larger towns. Regional produce on small farms or in the fields is worthwhile. For example, you can pick your own strawberries or buy potatoes. Transport is somewhat more rural. Bus connections are available in many places and are particularly popular in the morning or early evening with frequent journeys. During the day, however, this can be very limited. Larger towns and villages also have regional train connections. Växjö and Jönköping score particularly well in this respect, as they also have rail connections to Gothenburg, Malmö and Stockholm.
Holidays close to nature and full of adventure can be enjoyed to the full in southern Sweden. The beautiful region in southern Sweden boasts a breathtaking natural landscape with lakes and forests. The range of campsites is varied and pitches can be booked. This means you can plan your camping holiday in southern Sweden well in advance. But even for spontaneous decisions, there is always a place to stay.
