Corsica, the fourth-largest island in the Mediterranean, presents itself in many different ways: wildly romantic, rugged cliffs on the west coast and beautiful sandy beaches in the east. There are romantic mountain villages in the hinterland and traditional fishing villages on the coast. At the 4-star campsite on Corsica, active holidaymakers can take advantage of the perfect wind conditions for sailing and surfing or go on extensive bike tours or hikes, for example to the highest peak, Monte Cinto at 2,707 metres.
Active holidaymakers can discover the hidden beauties of the island on the perfectly developed network of hiking trails along the coast and in the hilly hinterland. Swimmers and water sports enthusiasts can enjoy themselves on the beaches.
With around 2750 hours of sunshine a year, the island of Corsica is an ideal destination for a carefree, sun-drenched beach holiday. In July and August, the sun shines from the sky for 11 hours or more at the 4-star campsite in Corsica. The Mediterranean warms up to around 24 degrees in the sheltered beech trees and there is just the right spot for every taste and desire along the diverse coastline: Families with children, for example, feel at home on the long sandy beach of Palombaggia in the south-east. The picturesque town is located in a sheltered bay, which is why the water here is particularly calm and crystal clear. Calvi in the north also boasts a fine sandy beach. However, the town is also known as a centre of attraction for surfers and divers, who find perfect conditions here.
With its hilly hinterland, Corsica is an Eldorado for hikers. Even in April, temperatures of up to 17 degrees can be found on the island. At a 4-star campsite in Corsica in spring, mountain lovers can expect a sea of bright yellow flowers when the island's typical maquis blooms. Numerous well-signposted paths with a total length of 2000 km criss-cross this natural idyll. 200 km long, the longest hiking trail is the Grande Randonée 20, or GR20 for short. It leads from Calenzana in the north to Conca in the south. A popular destination for a day trip is Monte Renoso, which is over 2000 metres high and can be reached from Capanelle. On the way to the summit, hikers pass the romantic Lake Bastiani.
A variety of events on Corsica immerse visitors in the culture and traditions of the island.
