Camping by the sea in Slovenia

That's why you should camp by the sea in Slovenia:

  • Holidays on the Adriatic
  • Cities worth seeing on the coast: Portoroz, Piran, Izola
  • Natural wonders such as the Piran salt marshes
  • Culinary highlights: fresh fish and truffles from the hinterland

Slovenia's short Adriatic coast is perfect for a holiday by the sea. Guests can enjoy a perfect holiday in the salty sea air from Ankaran on the Italian border to Sečovlje. In many places there are sandy bays that alternate with pebble beaches and rocky sections. Countless water sports options make the holiday perfect for active guests. Families can visit one of the fun water parks on the coast.

Camping Adria
Camping Adria offers a wide range of holiday activities right by the sea: play in the leisure park, splash around in the indoor and outdoor pools, relax in one of the saunas or unwind with a massage -… Campsite profile page

Slovenia is a real insider tip among campers. Its coastline is particularly worth seeing, where holidaymakers can relax in mild temperatures all year round. Thanks to its dreamy bays and picturesque fishing villages, the region by the sea is particularly popular. With a length of 50 km, the Adriatic coast in Slovenia is much shorter than that of its neighbours Croatia and Italy, but no less attractive!

Destinations

Piran is probably one of the prettiest towns on the Slovenian Adriatic coast. The alleyways in the old town are often less than 1 metre wide, which is why it is always pleasantly cool there, even at the height of summer. Numerous art studios and souvenir shops can be found in the traditional small stone houses. Camp Fiesa is located just 3 km from the city centre. The wheelchair-accessible campsite offers its guests a sauna, diving hire and a children's playground. It is only a few steps away from the sea.

The town of Koper, also located on the coast, has a campsite in the immediate vicinity of the sea. At the child-friendly Adria campsite, guests not only have access to the bowling alley and entertainment programme, but can even rent their own bathroom if they wish. The imposing 15th century Praetorian Palace in the town centre, which is within walking distance of the campsite, is Koper's most popular photo motif.

Much quieter than Portorož, known for its luxury hotels and casinos, is the neighbouring region around Lucija. With its Venetian flair, the small settlement attracts holidaymakers and locals alike. There are romantic cafés and a shopping centre in the town centre. The modern Lucija campsite is located right by the sea, at the edge of the huge marina. It can accommodate up to 1,000 guests. Campers can enjoy the mini golf course, tennis courts and playgrounds. Baby changing facilities are available in the bathrooms and dog owners can wash their four-legged friends in the outdoor showers.

Top tips

  • There are opportunities to go swimming basically everywhere along Slovenia's coast. There are ladders along the promenades so that you can easily find access to the water. However, the beach in Portorož is a real insider tip: palm trees, soft grass and a fine sandy beach round off a day by the sea perfectly. Sunbed hire, restaurants and showers are also available to guests.
  • Slovenia is known for its healing spas. The country has numerous wellness centres. At Camping Lucija, you sleep in the immediate vicinity of the recreational area. Hiking and cycling trails start directly at the campsite and take you to the salt pans. Also not far away: a seawater spa. Here you can recharge your batteries all year round in the heated brine water. The concentrated seawater is rich in minerals, bromine and iodine and detoxifies the bloodstream.

Activities and excursions

Whether on land or on water: the campsites by the sea in Slovenia serve as a starting point for many activities and excursions. Visitors can choose between sporting programmes such as cycling tours or cultural walks. There are also numerous excursions on offer for families, such as water sports activities and boat trips.

Bird tours in the salt pans of Sečovlje

In the famous salt pans of Sečovlje, salt blossom is still extracted today using an ancient process. The site near Piran covers an area of 6.5 km². Surrounded by reeds and salt plants, the salt pans are now home to over 270 different bird species, some of which can be discovered on guided tours. A museum in the southern part of the salt pans illustrates the everyday life of the salt workers who still work there today.

Experience the underwater world: round trip on a panoramic boat

A unique panorama boat offers round trips on the Slovenian coast. Through a special window below deck, guests can observe the underwater world during the trip. In addition to various species of fish, the sea shell plantations are a particular attraction.

Cultural and hiking trails with sea views

Many different signposted hiking trails lead through Piran and its surroundings. The so-called Sacred Path, for example, first leads past the town's architectural highlights before passing by religious sites. This mighty Venetian architecture characterises picturesque Piran and gives the town its very special charm. Far above the town, perched on a cliff, hikers can reach the cathedral church and the Minorite monastery, among others.

Cycling: A stage on the Parenzana

The Parenzana cycle path is a 135 km long panoramic trail from Italy via Slovenia to Croatia. You don't have to cycle it all the way to experience awe-inspiring moments in the impressive natural surroundings. Within Slovenia, the trail leads from Izola to Portorož and is ideal for a day trip.

Events

The annual festivals are well distributed throughout the country. Some of the best events can be reached directly from the campsite by the sea in Slovenia.

May

  • Internautica: A large boat show is held every year in the harbour of Portorož, where new products and trends are presented. Super yachts and sports boats are exhibited and innovative technologies are presented.

July - August

  • Piran Musical Evenings: This series of musical evenings has been taking place on various days between July and August since 1978. In total, over 200 Slovenian and international music groups and individual artists perform. It is one of the oldest music festivals in the country.
