Slovenia is a real insider tip among campers. Its coastline is particularly worth seeing, where holidaymakers can relax in mild temperatures all year round. Thanks to its dreamy bays and picturesque fishing villages, the region by the sea is particularly popular. With a length of 50 km, the Adriatic coast in Slovenia is much shorter than that of its neighbours Croatia and Italy, but no less attractive!
Piran is probably one of the prettiest towns on the Slovenian Adriatic coast. The alleyways in the old town are often less than 1 metre wide, which is why it is always pleasantly cool there, even at the height of summer. Numerous art studios and souvenir shops can be found in the traditional small stone houses. Camp Fiesa is located just 3 km from the city centre. The wheelchair-accessible campsite offers its guests a sauna, diving hire and a children's playground. It is only a few steps away from the sea.
The town of Koper, also located on the coast, has a campsite in the immediate vicinity of the sea. At the child-friendly Adria campsite, guests not only have access to the bowling alley and entertainment programme, but can even rent their own bathroom if they wish. The imposing 15th century Praetorian Palace in the town centre, which is within walking distance of the campsite, is Koper's most popular photo motif.
Much quieter than Portorož, known for its luxury hotels and casinos, is the neighbouring region around Lucija. With its Venetian flair, the small settlement attracts holidaymakers and locals alike. There are romantic cafés and a shopping centre in the town centre. The modern Lucija campsite is located right by the sea, at the edge of the huge marina. It can accommodate up to 1,000 guests. Campers can enjoy the mini golf course, tennis courts and playgrounds. Baby changing facilities are available in the bathrooms and dog owners can wash their four-legged friends in the outdoor showers.
Whether on land or on water: the campsites by the sea in Slovenia serve as a starting point for many activities and excursions. Visitors can choose between sporting programmes such as cycling tours or cultural walks. There are also numerous excursions on offer for families, such as water sports activities and boat trips.
In the famous salt pans of Sečovlje, salt blossom is still extracted today using an ancient process. The site near Piran covers an area of 6.5 km². Surrounded by reeds and salt plants, the salt pans are now home to over 270 different bird species, some of which can be discovered on guided tours. A museum in the southern part of the salt pans illustrates the everyday life of the salt workers who still work there today.
A unique panorama boat offers round trips on the Slovenian coast. Through a special window below deck, guests can observe the underwater world during the trip. In addition to various species of fish, the sea shell plantations are a particular attraction.
Many different signposted hiking trails lead through Piran and its surroundings. The so-called Sacred Path, for example, first leads past the town's architectural highlights before passing by religious sites. This mighty Venetian architecture characterises picturesque Piran and gives the town its very special charm. Far above the town, perched on a cliff, hikers can reach the cathedral church and the Minorite monastery, among others.
The Parenzana cycle path is a 135 km long panoramic trail from Italy via Slovenia to Croatia. You don't have to cycle it all the way to experience awe-inspiring moments in the impressive natural surroundings. Within Slovenia, the trail leads from Izola to Portorož and is ideal for a day trip.
The annual festivals are well distributed throughout the country. Some of the best events can be reached directly from the campsite by the sea in Slovenia.
