Wide sandy beaches and luxurious pools with lots of extras attract holidaymakers to the coasts of the Adriatic Sea between Italy, Slovenia and Croatia. The family-friendly campsites leave nothing to be desired and visitors are delighted by the wide range of activities on offer. There are also 26 campsites in the region with designated naturist areas. All campsites have been recognised by the ADAC as family-friendly and dog-friendly.

Top tips

  • Camping with your dog: There are numerous beaches on the Adriatic that allow you to take your four-legged friend with you. At the fine sandy Bagno Corallo, for example, fenced sunbeds and water bowls are available for hire. At Bau Bau Beach near Jesolo in the Italian region of Veneto, dogs are even allowed to swim in the sea. Those who prefer to spend their holiday in Croatia are well advised to choose Camping Stobreč Split, which scores with suitable beach sections. Overall, the 4-star campsites on the Adriatic Sea impress with their proximity to nature, peaceful surroundings and often dog showers. However, you should bring your own food.
  • Camping with children: Parents can rely on the excellent water quality along the Adriatic Sea so that their children can splash around carefree. The Blue Flag flies on many beaches and sanitary facilities make the stay easier. The campsites are also ideal for families. In addition to well-maintained pools, baby changing rooms and playgrounds are also available. In general, Italy is an extremely child-friendly country, so nobody is bothered by the bambinis playing. Families also feel right at home in Croatia. A popular and child-friendly campsite right by the sea is Camp Arena Kažela, for example, which offers age-appropriate entertainment, a playground and paddling pool.

Activities and excursions

The campsites and excursion destinations on the Adriatic coast leave nothing to be desired. Whether sporty or relaxed, enjoyable or active, there is plenty of variety for holidaymakers and some wellness offers at the 4-star campsite on the Adriatic.

Tennis on the court or volleyball on the beach

The campsite facilities are excellently equipped and tennis players can also enjoy their sporting activities here thanks to the training facilities. Individual training sessions or group courses are offered on the clay courts. For beach volleyball players, there are separate courts with nets right on the beach. After the sports session, players can refresh their skin directly in the sea and then dry off in the sun. Some facilities offer wellness programmes with massages and cosmetic treatments.

Sightseeing and shopping in romantic towns on the Adriatic

For a change of pace, the colourful markets of the fishing villages and coastal towns invite visitors to stroll and enjoy themselves along the Adriatic. The idyllic old towns with their flower-lined alleyways and original boutiques enchant with their charming flair. The local markets offer typical local specialities and freshly caught fish for barbecues with family and friends at the campsite. There are many historical buildings to discover all along the coast.

Events

On the Adriatic, life dances to the beat of the surf and all regions celebrate folk festivals, markets and international festivals with star-studded casts.

July

  • Festa del Redentore: A large and colourful folk festival in the famous lagoon city of Venice invites young and old to celebrate together. Guests and residents commemorate the wave of plague that struck the city in the 16th century. The festival consists of numerous concerts in a historic setting, a festive procession and a spectacular fireworks display.

August

  • Film Festival: The legendary festival of cinematic art with international exhibition has been held in Venice since 1932, making it one of the oldest in the world. If you want to meet the stars and starlets from Hollywood, you have your chance not only on the red carpet, but also on the water: the celebrities take a tour of the city in elegant gondolas.
