Along the picturesque river in the south of France, there are natural and cultural treasures to discover when camping with a pool on the Ardèche. The Chauvet Cave with its fascinating prehistoric drawings bears witness to the early colonisation of the region. Nature lovers are drawn to the romantic gorges, which can be explored by canoe, on foot or by bike.

Destinations

Guests can experience pure luxury at the ADAC Superplatz Domaine Les Ranchisses around 2.5 kilometres from Largentière. The well-kept campsite with pool on the Ardèche is located directly on the banks of the river and boasts a 1,000 square metre aqua park. Active holidaymakers can swim their lengths in the heated outdoor pools, while children can let off steam on the 3 slides. A whirlpool is also integrated into the water landscape. The family-friendly campsite also has a varied entertainment programme, ranging from aqua gymnastics to face painting and a mini disco. Children are lovingly looked after in the children's club while parents retreat to the spa or take advantage of the extensive range of sports on offer, such as canoe hire or the tennis court.

Water lovers will feel right at home at Ardèche Camping near Privas. In addition to a heated outdoor swimming pool with paddling pool and water slides, there is also an indoor pool. The small river that meanders through the campsite is also ideal for splashing around. There is also a varied leisure programme for guests of all ages. Families enjoy meeting up at the playground, the bouncy castles or the trampoline. Those who don't want to cook for themselves at the campsite on the Ardèche can visit the cosy evening restaurant. Snacks and pizza are available to take away throughout the day. In addition to spacious tent pitches for motorhomes and tents, there are also fully equipped mobile homes.

Top tips

  • If you don't want to do without a pool when camping in the French département of Ardèche, the village of Coux is just the place for you. Here at Camping Le Moulin dOnclaire, water-loving guests can enjoy a refreshing dip in the pool. And it's only a ten-minute drive from here to the Piscine Tournesol à Privas outdoor pool, which attracts sporty holidaymakers with a covered 25-metre pool and four lanes.
  • As many campsites with pools on the Ardèche are located directly on the water, they offer the perfect conditions for exploring the fascinating landscape with water sports. For example, you can explore the natural wonder of the Pont d'Arc, a natural stone bridge, on your own with a hire canoe or on a guided tour.

Activities and excursions

For a change of pace, guests camping with a pool in the Ardèche can enjoy the well-developed hiking trails or visit cultural highlights from different eras.

Actively discover the Ardèche

Even away from the well-kept swimming pools of the campsites with pools in the Ardèche, this charming holiday region has plenty to offer active holidaymakers. The paths known as greenways or Voie Verts are reserved for cyclists and hikers. The Via Ardèche between Vogüe and Grospierres, for example, is particularly family-friendly due to its flat route. This very scenic tour runs along a former railway line. Ambitious cyclists are drawn to the hilly tour in the Eyrieux valley between La Voulte-sur-Rhone and Le Cheylard. It passes terraced chestnut plantations and the romantic castle ruins of Pierregourde. The Gordes de l'Ardèche gorge is an ideal destination for a hike. It is located at the end of the river between Vallon-Pont-d'Arc and Saint-Martin-d'Ardèche. An extended hike here is only possible in summer when the river is at low water. All year round, you can canoe through the charming landscape, which is characterised by deep forests and rugged rocks.

Follow in the footsteps of the past

If you are interested in culture, you can go on excursions to the picturesque towns of the region while camping by the pool on the Ardèche. For example, a visit to Vofüe Castle, which towers over the town at the foot of a mighty limestone cliff, is well worthwhile. Today, the complex with its four impressive round towers built in the 17th century houses a museum. Changing exhibitions by contemporary artists are on display. Visitors can also learn interesting facts about the history of the castle. One of the region's most impressive landmarks is the Chauvet Cave near Vallon-Pont-d'Arc, which was discovered in 1994. The UNSESCO cultural heritage site impresses with 30,000-year-old charcoal drawings. The historic cave has been faithfully recreated in the elaborately designed visitor centre.
