This building is definitely worth a visit. The beautiful Villa Napoleonica in San Martino was used as a summer residence by the French general and emperor. Today you can marvel at exhibits and works of art from Napoleon's time.

A paradisiacal prison island

How about other islands near Elba? Capraia, Giglio and Pianosa are all smaller than Elba, but just as worth seeing. A boat trip to the prison island of Pianosa - where you should keep an eye out for dolphins - is particularly exciting. Some prisoners are held in custody here and not in a cell as expected: they are in open detention and work in a restaurant in the island's only town, for example. The clear, turquoise blue and vast sea forms a kind of enclosure where bars are not necessary, so it is understandable and hardly surprising that Pianosa can only be explored with a guide. However, only prisoners who have almost reached the end of their sentence and have shown good behaviour in the previous prison are transferred to this little paradise. Speaking of paradise: A bike tour through the idyllic and unspoilt landscape is particularly recommended, as the entire island and its sea surroundings are a nature reserve. Here you can expect to find enchanting oases.

• Palio Remiero Elbano: The captivating Elban rowing championship takes place on the most important beaches on Elba. Men and women compete in boats with four oars and are supported from the shore by numerous fans.

• Christmas market: A festive atmosphere is created in the village of SantIlario. Christmas carols are sung together while the youngest visitors listen to exciting stories. Typical products and excellent handicrafts are on sale.
