Camping La Playa Ibiza
Camping La Playa Ibiza

The campsites on Ibiza are mostly located close to the sea on the Balearic island. Romantic bathing bays attract beach holidaymakers, as do long stretches of fine sandy coastline. Guests can get a tan undisturbed at naturist campsites. Dog owners can take their four-legged friends for long walks on the beach. Hippy markets, water sports and a distinctive nightclub scene provide variety on a camping holiday.

Camping specialities

When camping on Ibiza, holidaymakers can expect well-equipped pitches by the turquoise-blue Mediterranean. Beach holidaymakers in particular feel at home on the Pitiusas, a group of islands in the Balearic Islands. The unspoilt nature in the hinterland of the campsites on Ibiza is ideal for exciting excursions. Sites such as Camping Cala Nova or Camping Es Cana impress with their range of beautifully situated pitches for motorhomes and tents. In many places, the trees provide plenty of privacy and shade on the campsites.

Campsites on Ibiza

The campsites on the Balearic island meet the highest standards. Often located close to the beach, the pitches on firm ground (grass or paving) offer a view of the sea. Most sites have a bike hire service or a wide range of leisure facilities for entertaining days on the island. The service for motorhomes with grey water emptying and gas bottle exchange is a matter of course in many places.

Camping Cala Nova

The Cala Nova campsite in the north-west impresses its guests with beautiful pitches for motorhomes close to the sea. Activities such as diving, trekking, water sports and horse riding are easily possible here. Situated on the outskirts of Santa Eulalia del Río, you can make use of the local shopping facilities next to the small supermarket on site.

Camping Es Cana

The tranquil Es Cana campsite in the north-west scores with its bathing facilities by the sea and the campsite's own outdoor pool. The family-run site with its extensive tree population for valuable shade not only offers pitches, but also versatile rental accommodation of various sizes.

Getting there

Holidaymakers can reach the Spanish Mediterranean island in two ways. Either by plane from many German airports or by ferry in your own car. Campers flying to Ibiza can hire caravans or motorhomes on site. If you are travelling directly from Central Europe in your own vehicle, you can book a crossing to the Balearic island from the ports of Barcelona or Valencia. The ships sail regularly and sometimes even several times a day. The shortest crossing from Barcelona takes just over eight hours. From Germany, holidaymakers can take four different routes to Barcelona. Depending on their starting point, travellers choose the routes via Freiburg or Saarbrücken and Mulhouse to Lyon. From Lyon, travellers travel along the Mediterranean coast to the port of Barcelona. From the centre of Germany, the distance is around 1,540 km. Drivers should take a longer break after 1,000 kilometres at the latest. The well-equipped motorway service stations in Solaize and Sérézin-du-Rhône are located shortly after Lyon.

Destinations on Ibiza

The most popular holiday region on Ibiza is the south-east with the capital, the long sandy beaches and the countless entertainment options. The island is more unspoilt in the south-west with the lively holiday resort of San Antonio. The north-east was once the centre of Ibiza's flower power movement, which has left its mark to this day.

Ibiza Town

The island's capital enchants visitors with its historic old town, Dalt Vila, which is surrounded by the old city wall. Behind it, the cathedral of Santa Maria de Les Neus and the monastery of Santo Domingo with its impressive cloister are well protected. The walk through the maze of small alleyways alone is a unique experience.

San Antonio

Adventurous travellers prefer to visit the holiday resort of San Antonio on the west coast of the island. The extensive bay with its white sandy beach offers numerous water sports opportunities. One memorable event is the sunset, which can be watched from the beach bars. Afterwards, the young and young-at-heart holidaymakers throw themselves into the lively nightlife.

Santa Eulalia

This pretty beach resort in the north-east of Ibiza is particularly popular with families and couples on holiday. The sea is crystal clear and the seafront promenade is perfect for a stroll. A popular excursion on Wednesdays is to the famous hippy market in the neighbouring village of Es Canar.

Top 5 sights

  • Santa Maria Cathedral: The sacred building is one of Ibiza's landmarks. The church in Ibiza Town is built on a former mosque and is in the Baroque style.
  • Hippy markets: Visitors can buy handicrafts, souvenirs and fashion while listening to live music.
  • Phoenician settlement of Sa Caleta: Holidaymakers explore the settlement from the 7th century BC, which was once home to around 300 inhabitants.
  • Torre d'es Savinar: The pirate watchtower is surrounded by magical rock formations and offers sweeping views of the sea.
  • Cova de Can Marçà: The cave, which is around 100,000 years old, fascinates with huge stalactite formations that are spectacularly staged.

Activities and excursions

A camping holiday on Ibiza is full of variety. During the day, visitors discover mysterious islands or plunge into the cool water on water slides. Shopping is also one of the holidaymakers' favourite pastimes. The newly purchased outfits are worn in the evening.

Rocky island of Es Vedrà

The mystical rocky island rises out of the sea around two kilometres off the west coast of Ibiza. Numerous seafaring legends surround the bizarrely shaped island. The uninhabited island, which serves as a breeding ground for many seabirds, can be circumnavigated by excursion boat.

Cycling tours for beginners and advanced cyclists

There are many cycle routes for active holidaymakers on the Balearic island. A beautiful route for beginners runs from Sant Antoni along the coast to Port des Torrent. There are green markings on the road. If you need a breather in between, you can swim in the bays.

Galeria Elefante

This friendly shop sells a colourful hodgepodge of clothing, decorative items and care products from all over the world. Anyone looking for small accessories, pictures or lamps for their caravan will find what they are looking for here.

Aguamar Water Park

The amusement park in Playa d'en Bossa provides thrills with its fast-paced slides. The wave pool and lazy river invite you to relax. The youngest guests have fun in the baby pool and paddling pool.

events

June

To celebrate the patron saint Sant Joan, bonfires are lit in all municipalities on the island to mark the summer solstice. As tradition would have it, many visitors jump through the flames. Music, games and sweet pastries are also part of the spectacle.

August

The Fiesta Nuestra Senyora de les Neus in Ibiza Town is a big festival in honour of the patron saint, during which processions take place and ancient dances are performed. A colourful firework display concludes the festivities.

Gastronomy

There are countless fish and seafood dishes on the island's menus. Well-known specialities include borrida de rajada, a ray ragout, and calamars a la bruta, octopus cooked in its own ink. Hearty meat dishes are also served. Holidaymakers should try the spicy Sofrit Pagès stew with sausage, potatoes and lamb. The aroma of the Guisat de Caracoles snail stew with pork belly and vegetables will not only win over connoisseurs. The desserts on Ibiza are worth a sin. Macarrons de Sant Joan are pasta cooked with milk, sugar and cinnamon. Flaó, a type of cheesecake with aniseed liqueur, is also delicious. People on the Balearic Islands like to have a sweet breakfast. The typical ensaïmada pastries with sugar or custard taste delicious with coffee.

Best time to visit

The best weather for a beach holiday on Ibiza is between June and September. Then there are up to 11 hours of sunshine a day and hardly any rain. Temperatures stabilise at an average of 24 degrees Celsius. The Mediterranean around the Balearic island is also around 25 degrees Celsius in August, providing ideal conditions for water sports enthusiasts and sun worshippers. In spring and autumn, active holidaymakers enjoy the island's mild temperatures. The 15 degree mark is often reached as early as March and even in November it can be up to 19 degrees Celsius. February is the coolest month with between six and 14 degrees Celsius, but holidaymakers still like to come to Ibiza because they don't want to miss the spectacle of the almond blossom.
