How to get to the Mecklenburg Lake District

Travelling by car or motorhome takes you to the north-east of Germany. The easiest way to get there is via motorway 19, which runs directly through the Mecklenburg Lake District. Junctions lead to Waren an der Müritz, Plau am See and Alt-Schwerin. From Berlin , the A24, B96 and A11 motorways lead north towards the Mecklenburg Lake District. From Rostock , it is only a 100 km drive. From the west or north-west, you can use the A20 or A24** motorways. Both motorways are also available from Hamburg. The city on the Elbe is around 200 km from the Mecklenburg Lake District.

Gastronomy

The cuisine of the Mecklenburg Lake District is mainly characterised by the region's lakes and rivers. Fish such as trout, carp and pike are at the top of the region's menus.
