Unique bays, mysterious grottos and fantastic ski resorts make a stay at wellness campsites in Italy just as much of an event as historic cities and sights. The country offers a veritable myriad of excellent campsites for customisable dream holidays. Southern weather and Mediterranean cuisine also make every successful trip to Italy a perfect experience.

Destinations

Wellness camping in Italy means a varied holiday experience tailored to individual tastes thanks to the highly diverse climatic and scenic regions. The northern regions on the southern side of the Alps, such as South Tyrol, Lombardy and Piedmont, are characterised by massive mountain ranges, dense forests and gently rolling hills.

Very well-equipped campsites in northern Italy offer great extras. A prime example is the ADAC-classified Genießer- & Comfortcamping Schlosshof near the municipality of Lana in South Tyrol. An indoor pool, outdoor pool, restaurant, shopping facilities and a child- and dog-friendly atmosphere are all part of the basic facilities here. The north of Italy offers great activities such as hiking, winter sports, rafting or visits to huge national parks such as the Parco Nazionale Gran Paradiso in the Aosta Valley.

Mediterranean weather prevails all year round in central Italy. Carefree beach holidays on the coast of Rimini or on the island of Elba are just as much a possibility as impressive city tours in Pisa, Florence or Rome. The Camping Village Rubicone in Savignano sul Rubicone on the Adriatic coast is highly recommended for a holiday in central Italy. Sports-loving campers will get their money's worth with the many sports facilities in and around the garden-like site. The campsite is also located directly on the Adriatic coast and offers many entertainment options for children.

Southern Italy has a particularly large number of scenic bays and beautiful sandy beaches in front of azure blue seas. Islands such as Sicily and Sardinia have a character all of their own and offer a scenic journey by boat. Camping Telis in Sardinia, for example, is located near a beautiful bay and surrounded by eucalyptus trees on narrow terraces.

Activities and excursions

Due to the size and the scenic and cultural diversity of the various regions, there are endless opportunities to experience great activities and excursions while wellness camping in Italy.

Conquer the legendary Mount Vesuvius

The active volcano towers over the Gulf of Naples in southern Italy. The 1,281 metre high Vesuvius is famous worldwide for the destruction of ancient Pompeii. However, climbing Mount Vesuvius is considered very safe because, thanks to the technology available today, a possible eruption can be predicted two weeks in advance. The ascent along the well-maintained hiking trail is rewarded with spectacular views over Naples, the Gulf of Naples and the ruins of Pompeii. Of course, you can conquer Mount Vesuvius on your own and with complete flexibility. However, guided tours bring visitors closer to the living history of the volcano. Those who prefer to get to the crater as quickly as possible and without any detours can either travel by bus or in their own vehicle and drive a good distance up Mount Vesuvius. Buses are allowed to drive up to the upper car park, while private vehicles can park a little further down.

Marvel at unique architecture on a day trip to Venice

Legendary sights such as St Mark's Basilica, the Doge's Palace and the Rialto Bridge stand close to the city's canals between ancient Renaissance and Gothic buildings. One of these is the Grand Canal. The famous canal is ideal for exploring the city by gondola. The islands that surround the historic centre create a unique flair. Murano, for example, offers an insight into the Venetian art of glassblowing, while the holiday island of Lido to the east has numerous well-kept campsites and long sandy beaches for an unforgettable stay close to the historic centre of Venice. With legendary events such as the carnival, the film festival and the art biennale, the city always has a very special theme. In addition to the incomparable old town, Venice also has authentic residential neighbourhoods such as Campo Santa Margherita. The student quarter is characterised by a lively nightlife. There are also small shops, markets and quirky bars everywhere.

Events

Numerous events take place in Italy throughout the year that can be wonderfully combined with wellness camping.

April

  • Zen-A Wellness Fair: The fair in Genoa dedicates a weekend to natural wellness as well as holistic and sustainable development. Natural body care, veganism and organic food are just some of the items on the programme.

May - June

  • RiminiWellness: This event in Rimini is a somewhat different trade fair and focuses on fitness, wellness, body culture and healthy eating. Visitors can test the latest sports equipment and other innovative products over four days.

October

  • Yoga Festival: Italy's largest yoga festival is held annually in Milan. In addition to many stands presenting the necessary equipment, there are free yoga lessons from well-known experts and lectures. An entertaining supporting programme with live music also delights visitors.
