The leisure programme for camping with children in the Odenwald ranges from wild animal parks and romantic castles to water fun in the thermal baths.

Families can enjoy a carefree outdoor holiday in a breathtaking natural setting when camping with children in the Odenwald. The low mountain range with its dense forests and colourful orchards is an Eldorado for hikers. Routes suitable for children with numerous exciting stations make the extended walk an adventure. Excursion destinations such as the Odenwald thermal baths or the historic castles round off the attractive holiday programme.

Top tips

● The Odenwald is a central holiday region and easy to reach from many parts of Germany. Despite the sometimes short journey time, families ensure that the time in the car passes quickly with CDs, games and books. Regular breaks during the journey are also recommended.

● On a family campsite in the Odenwald, life takes place outdoors when the weather is nice. Active holidaymakers should pack balls, a badminton set and other sports equipment. Board games for the evening and a favourite cuddly toy for the little ones should also be in the suitcase.

● If you don't want to set up a tent, you can rent accommodation at the campsites in the Odenwald. You can choose from romantic wooden barrels, classic mobile homes and spacious safari tents. The modern trend of glamping combines a holiday in the great outdoors with a stay in excellently equipped accommodation with a kitchen and often separate living and sleeping areas.

Activities and excursions

There is plenty to discover on hikes along the exciting adventure trails in the Odenwald. There are also many worthwhile excursion destinations.

Into nature with children

Active families prefer to explore the densely wooded hilly landscape of the Odenwald on foot. There is plenty to experience on the 7.3 km Hammelbach sound trail, for example: At nine stations, hikers of all ages can test their musical talents on the wind harp or the large Überwald bell. The 2.3 km long Bonsweiher forest adventure trail is also entertaining. Along the way, a barefoot path invites you to feel different surfaces. In the adventure areas, visitors can feel tree bark or search for animal tracks.

Excursion destinations for animal lovers

A visit to the Fürth Mountain Animal Park is well worthwhile for animal lovers. Here, visitors can admire around 200 animals from dwarf goats to alpacas and kangaroos. All animals can be fed with the food available at the entrance. Culture lovers are drawn to the romantic Guttenberg Castle, which has towered high above the Neckar Valley since the 12th century. A special highlight for the whole family are the flight demonstrations at the German Griffin Centre. Powerful eagles, eagle owls and vultures show off their aerial skills. In the species-appropriate kennels, visitors can admire around 80 birds up close and learn interesting facts about the lives of these impressive animals from the expert keepers.
