The region of Lower Franconia lies in the heart of Germany and forms the north-westernmost tip of Bavaria. One of the most important motorways through Lower Franconia is the A7, which stretches from north to south and is the best option for travellers from Bavaria, Baden-Württemberg and northern Germany. The motorway starts in Füssen in the Allgäu region and runs right across the state to the border with Denmark. From the south of Bavaria, it is around 300 kilometres to the destination. The Hanseatic city of Hamburg is just under 500 kilometres from Lower Franconia.
The A3 motorway passes through Lower Franconia from west to east. Among other things, the motorway provides a connection from Frankfurt am Main. It is only 40 kilometres from the financial metropolis to Aschaffenburg in Lower Franconia. You can also use the A3 motorway to travel from the Rhineland. Travellers from Cologne should plan about 250 km. From Berlin, first take the A9 southwards. At Nuremberg, change to the A3 motorway to Lower Franconia.

They are often eaten with sweet mustard, mashed potatoes and sauerkraut. Another typical dish is the Franconian Schäufele: a shoulder of pork served with dumplings and red cabbage. In Schweinfurt, you can order the traditional Schlachtschüssel, an aromatic stew with pork, bread, sauerkraut and grated horseradish. It goes well with a sip of sweet Franconian wine from the region's typical Bocksbeutel. When in season, gourmets like to order fresh asparagus salad as a starter. For dessert, treat yourself to the doughnut-like cakes, which are fried until golden brown.

In midsummer, temperatures reach an average maximum of up to 24 degrees Celsius. Sometimes even higher values are reached. In the lakes of Franconia, water temperatures of around 20 degrees Celsius can be expected.
Spring and autumn are ideal for hiking and cycling tours. From April to June, for example, temperatures range from 14 to 22 degrees Celsius. In September and October, temperatures fluctuate between 15 and 20 degrees Celsius. Fantastic views await holidaymakers as the leaves change colour.
