In addition to sights such as Augsburg Cathedral and the world-famous Augsburger Puppenkiste puppet theatre, the city is known above all for the many fountains and canals in the city centre. Augsburg has therefore been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2019. Active holidaymakers enjoy the beautiful landscape beyond the city limits, which can be explored on the many hiking and cycling trails.
Augsburg is located in the Bavarian Swabia holiday region in the west of Bavaria and is the largest city in the region. The city was shaped by the Romans and the Fugger merchant family, who left many historical buildings in the city. Augsburg is therefore a great destination for campers who want to combine their holiday with sightseeing. The city centre is easily accessible from the campsites by public transport, and Augsburg also has plenty to offer active holidaymakers. The Bavarian Swabia region is an ideal hiking area. Numerous cycling and hiking trails lead through a cultural landscape characterised by palaces, castles and monasteries. Some of the most beautiful sights are located along the Romantic Road - a holiday route over 400 kilometres long that leads from Würzburg to Füssen in the Allgäu. The many lakes and rivers around Augsburg are very popular with families with children. Here you can go sailing, rowing, canoeing, swimming or simply relax by the water. A highlight for water sports enthusiasts is the Augsburg Ice Canal. The oldest artificial canoe slalom course in the world can also be used by amateur athletes.

The natural campsite offers a private bathing lake with a beautiful beach and great unparcelled pitches with a view of the lake. There is a bus stop directly in front of the site. Alternatively, guests can cycle along the Lech river to Augsburg.

Picturesque alleyways wind through the centre and lead past old clockmakers' houses from the 17th century. Other highlights include the newly renovated Wittelsbach Castle, the magnificent baroque pilgrimage church Herrgottsruh and the beautiful Friedberg Castle Park.
The Danube town of Günzburg is the perfect excursion destination for families. Legoland Germany is located nearby - a paradise for children. The town's watery surroundings also make Günzburg a popular destination for swimmers and water sports enthusiasts. Hikers can explore the surrounding area on the beautiful Donauwald premium hiking trail. Afterwards, head into the pretty old town centre to one of the many street cafés on the central market square.
Fuggerei Augsburg: The Fuggerei is the oldest social housing estate in the world and was founded around 500 years ago by Jakob Fugger the Rich. Visitors experience an exciting chapter of Augsburg's history on a walk through the "city within the city". Augsburg Cathedral: Augsburg Cathedral is one of the most magnificent buildings in Augsburg. The church was built in 995 and five Romanesque prophet windows from 1065 and the remains of the oldest known figurative stained glass cycle in the world have been preserved. Augsburger Puppenkiste The Augsburger Puppenkiste is probably the most famous puppet theatre in Germany. It can be found in the old town centre of Augsburg. A puppet theatre museum has now also been opened, where visitors can admire Jim Knopf, Urmel from the Ice Cream and Co. up close. Augsburg Zoo: Augsburg Zoo is a great destination for families. Visitors can look forward to seeing over 1200 animals, including elephants, tigers, rhinos and penguins. There is something for everyone here! Legoland Deutschland: The huge Legoland Deutschland leisure and adventure park is located not far from Günzburg. The highlight is the replica of famous buildings made from Lego bricks. There are also rollercoasters, playgrounds and many other attractions.
Campers who are travelling by motorhome and want to see even more of Bavaria have a choice of different camping routes. One popular tour that offers magnificent mountain panoramas is the German Alpine Road. The route connects Königssee in Berchtesgaden with Lake Constance and leads along the northern edge of the Alps to some of Germany's most impressive natural spectacles. There are also charming towns such as Bad Tölz, Füssen and Lindau as well as cultural highlights such as Neuschwanstein Castle. A real dream tour!
