Lindau on Lake Constance is one of the most beautiful places in Bavaria to spend a camping holiday by the lake. Numerous great beaches, a wide range of leisure activities for water sports enthusiasts and the excellent infrastructure make Lindau an ideal holiday destination for water lovers and families with children. But those interested in culture will also get their money's worth here: the picturesque old town island of Lindau is one of the most beautiful sights in Bavaria and is the perfect place for an eventful city trip with lots to discover.

Special features of camping in Lindau

Lindau is located on the eastern shore of Lake Constance in the four-country region of Germany-Austria-Switzerland-Liechtenstein. The town is world-famous above all for the old town island with the harbour entrance, which is flanked by the famous Bavarian Lion and the New Lighthouse - the town's landmarks. Thanks to its direct location on Lake Constance, Lindau is above all a great place to spend a carefree camping holiday by the lake. There are a number of campsites around Lindau, some directly on the lake with access to the water, others in the picturesque hinterland between dense forests and flowering meadows. Bathing holidaymakers will find some beautiful shore areas both on the mainland and on Lindau Island. The old Eichwald lido was demolished in 2017, but there are several lidos to the west of Lindau. There are also several dog beaches around the town, and water sports enthusiasts can easily hire boats and equipment in Lindau. There are also several sailing schools, surfing schools and diving schools. Active holidaymakers can set off on extensive hikes directly from the campsite. The beautiful three-country region is ideal for short and longer tours. Popular excursion destinations include the Pfänder, the local mountain of the Austrian town of Bregenz, and the mystical Rappenloch Gorge.

Popular campsites in Lindau

The campsites in Lindau are ideally suited to the needs of families and holidaymakers. In addition to pitches for caravans and motorhomes, rental accommodation and mobile homes are often offered. Dogs are allowed on many pitches. Early booking is recommended in summer, as Lake Constance is very popular.

Campingpark Gitzenweiler Hof

One of the most popular campsites in the region is not located directly on Lake Constance. However, this does not detract from the popularity of Campingpark Gitzenweiler Hof. The family-friendly campsite offers numerous leisure activities, a children's playground with petting zoo and pony farm, a large pool and a highly recommended restaurant. A great campsite that is not so popular for nothing!

Park-Camping-Lindau am See

Thanks to its location directly on the lake, Park-Camping Lindau is the perfect place for beach holidaymakers. It's only a few metres from the pitch to the refreshing water. The most beautiful pitches on the shore also offer wonderful views of the lake. There are also clean sanitary facilities, a proper restaurant and a playground for children. What more could you want? The site is very popular, so be sure to book in good time.

Camping Mexico

The beautiful Mexico campsite is located on the Austrian side of Lake Constance near Bregenz. But it's definitely worth the detour. The picturesque site right on the lake offers a natural idyll that is second to none. Those seeking relaxation will feel right at home here, as it is very quiet. The famous Lake Constance cycle path runs right past the site.

Favourite places in the region

There is a lot to discover around Lindau. The first port of call for many visitors is the town of Lindau itself. The picturesque old town island with its famous harbour entrance and lighthouse is a great excursion destination and a good starting point for exploring the region - for example with the excursion boats that connect the towns on Lake Constance. The cultural city of Bregenz is located in Austria and is well worth a visit, especially in summer, thanks to the world-famous Bregenz Festival. On the western shore of Lake Constance, the historic city of Constance is one of the most beautiful destinations for a day trip. Our tip: Don't forget to plan a visit to the flower island of Mainau!

Lindau

The island town of Lindau is one of the first ports of call on Lake Constance for many visitors and is definitely worth a visit. One of the most famous sights that holidaymakers should definitely see is the harbour district with its famous entrance between the lighthouse and the six-metre-high sculpture of the Bavarian Lion. The ships of the White Fleet also depart from here for other major cities such as Bregenz, Rorschach, the Rhine Falls, Constance and Überlingen. The historic old town island with its magnificent villas and numerous cafés and restaurants on the famous Maximilianstrasse is also a great destination for a stroll.

Bregenz

Not far from Lindau across the Austrian border lies the cultural city of Bregenz in the Vorarlberg region. Bregenz is best known for the Bregenz Festival, which takes place every summer on the largest lake stage in the world and presents a rich cultural programme with concerts, plays and readings. The beautiful lakeside promenade and the attractive town centre with its wide range of museums and exhibitions are also a great place to take a stroll. Active holidaymakers can't avoid a visit to the 1064 m high Pfänder, which offers breathtaking views of the lake - those who like it more comfortable can simply take the cable car.

Constance

Constance on western Lake Constance is the largest city in the region and enchants visitors with its beautiful medieval old town, which invites you to stroll around for hours with its winding alleyways and many charming shops. Well-known sights include the magnificent cathedral and the quaint Niederburg district with its traditional craft workshops. Sights and excursion tips

  • New lighthouse: Lindau's lighthouse was built at the end of the 19th century and rises 33 metres into the sky. On the opposite side of the pier, the Bavarian Lion is enthroned as a sculpture on a pedestal. The best views of the neighbourhood can be enjoyed from the medieval Mang Tower.

  • Old Town Hall: Architecture fans should take a look at the beautiful Old Town Hall with its magnificent Renaissance gable in Maximilianstraße.
  • Barfüßerplatz: A walk takes holidaymakers to the lively Barfüßerplatz and the casino in the Stadtgarten. On the outskirts, the Lindau Park Theatre invites you to visit the cinema. International and regional films are shown here every day.

Tour tip

Still have some time after your camping holiday in Lindau? Then we recommend an extended road trip through the beautiful south of Germany! One of the most beautiful tours in the region is the German Alpine Road, which offers a great overview of Bavaria's most famous sights between Lake Constance and Königssee over a distance of around 450 kilometres. On the programme: picturesque mountain landscapes in the Berchtesgaden National Park, charming towns such as Füssen and Bad Tölz and the famous fairytale castles of Neuschwanstein and Hohenschwangau.
