If you want to combine the adventure of nature with luxury, you might find your new passion in glamping in Switzerland. Roughly speaking, this is camping with glamour. The tents, huts and lodges are luxuriously furnished and offer high-quality comfort. Holidaymakers have a direct view of the snow-covered peaks of the Alps, for example, or of famous Swiss waters such as the Rhine or Lake Constance.
The Alps are of course one of the top destinations for luxury camping in Switzerland. Away from metropolises such as Zurich, Basel and Bern, you will find wonderful conditions for relaxing and unwinding. The Bernese Oberland, for example, is just a few minutes away from the capital with its stunning rock faces and crystal-clear mountain lakes.
Many camping enthusiasts are also drawn to Lake Lucerne near Lucerne and the Valais. The latter fascinates with the highest mountains in Europe and even has a very special highlight to offer with the striking Matterhorn.
Another tip is the canton of Graubünden, where the campsites are surrounded by fragrant coniferous forests. Holidaymakers are even drawn to glamping accommodation in Switzerland in winter during the ski season, e.g. in Davos, Arosa and St. Moritz. The luxurious tents and lodges are perfectly heated, some even have a fireplace, and serve as a cosy domicile on romantic snowy winter days. It is also popular to book a PODhouse, which are exclusive wooden igloos in a mix of modern and traditional.
Some of the most beautiful glamping sites in Switzerland include the picturesque sites in the wild and romantic Grisons and Valais. It is also popular to rent luxury accommodation on Lake Thun in the canton of Bern.
Luxurious mobile homes, bungalows and tents with electricity, comfortable mattresses, shower, WC and kitchen await holiday guests at Camping Manor Farm 1 in the canton of Bern. You can spend the night on the outskirts of Interlaken with a direct view of the shimmering turquoise waters of Lake Thun. If you fancy it, you can hire a pedalo on the shore. The campsite offers entertainment for children, direct access to the beach and a varied sports programme.
Only a few minutes separate visitors to the Simplonblick campsite to the west of Visp from the legendary Simplon Pass in the south of Switzerland. Here, secluded in the mountains of Valais, high-quality rental tents and mobile homes with luxurious facilities such as a kitchen, several bedrooms and a charming design await. The campsite also has a heated outdoor pool.
The charm of a real Maiensäss in the canton of Graubünden and the pure luxury of the wooden rental cabins are what make Camping Sur En so appealing. The cabins have a modern design and impress with their large panoramic windows, among other things. Camping Sur En can be reached via a wooden bridge over the River Inn from the village of Crusch. The site spoils its guests with facilities such as a heated outdoor pool, children's playground and sauna. There is also a bike hire service and fast Wi-Fi throughout the site.
There are many attractions to admire in Valais in particular, including the Lötschen Valley and the Matterhorn. Switzerland's nature in Graubünden, Ticino and the canton of St. Gallen is equally inspiring.
The valley is located in the Upper Valais and forms the largest side valley of the Rhone north of the river. It is worth taking a look at the almost 4,000 metre-high mountains such as the Bietschhorn on a hike here. The Anung Glacier can also be visited on a hike. The ascent up to the Lötschen Pass, from where you can enjoy marvellous views of the Bernese Alps, should also be exciting.
This alp in the canton of St. Gallen is a real insider tip. Located within the municipality of Eschenbach, there are a total of six excellent ski runs here in winter. There is also a winter and summer toboggan run. In the warmer months, the green meadows of the alp are irresistibly attractive to visitors and tempt them to go for a hike.
The Matterhorn is one of the most famous natural wonders in the Swiss Alps. The 4,478 metre-high massif with its striking peak rises near the village of Zermatt. If you are not an ambitious mountaineer yourself, you can learn about the history of the first ascent at the Matterhorn Museum.
