Whether it's extended snowshoe hikes, skiing and snowboarding on the numerous pistes or cross-country skiing - during the day, winter camping in Germany is guaranteed not to be boring. In the evening, campers can sit around the campfire together and reflect on the wonderful day in the winter wonderland. The most beautiful German campsites for winter campers are clearly located on the idyllic edge of the Alps, for example in the Allgäu or in Upper Bavaria.
Although there are numerous low mountain ranges in Germany, the most versatile destinations for winter sports enthusiasts are on the edge of the Alps. There are some attractive winter campsites in the Allgäu and Upper Bavaria.
Oberstdorf in the Allgäu offers idyllic nature, cross-country ski trails and hiking paths. On the Fellhorn/Kanzelwand and Söllereck ski mountains, the medium-difficulty, family-friendly pistes predominate. For experts, however, there are also mogul pistes and more difficult variants on the Nebelhorn.
The Olympic resort of Garmisch-Partenkirchen offers international flair, a wide range of leisure activities and a varied classic ski area. Germany's highest mountain with the snow-sure Zugspitzplatt naturally takes centre stage. The Zugspitze is also easily accessible from the Austrian side by cable car.
The high valley of Reit im Winkl is a small winter paradise with numerous cross-country ski runs, winter hiking trails and snowshoe trails. The gentle ski meadows of the Winklmoosalm provide access to the somewhat more challenging slopes of the Steinplatte on the Austrian side.
You don't always have to travel abroad to find beautiful winter campsites. During the cold season, many campsites in Germany offer suitable facilities and a varied sports and leisure programme. The facilities often include wellness centres with saunas, indoor pools and various beauty treatments. Although there are also many low mountain ranges in Germany, the most varied destinations for winter sports enthusiasts are probably on the edge of the Alps, most of them in the Allgäu and Upper Bavaria.
The picturesque Allgäu impresses with its idyllic nature and dreamy towns such as Oberstdorf. Guests can look forward to varied hiking trails and cross-country skiing routes through snow-covered landscapes. Families with children often stay close to the Fellhorn/Kanzelwand and Söllereck ski areas, as the family-friendly, easy to medium-difficulty slopes predominate here. Ideal for all young winter sports enthusiasts and beginners. A particularly attractive destination is the Oberstdorf campsite, for example, which offers a ski lift, ski bus and drying room as well as a fantastic view of the Oberstdorf ski jump and the mountains. The winter campsites in Garmisch-Partenkirchen in Upper Bavaria are also extremely popular. The Olympic resort attracts visitors with its varied classic ski area and Germany's highest mountain with the famous snow-sure Zugspitzplatz. In this region, the Zugspitze Camping Resort has emerged as one of the best. It also has a ski lift, a ski bus and a drying room and offers guests views of the Zugspitze massif.
Whether you're a winter sports enthusiast, culture vulture or active holidaymaker, winter camping in Germany offers guests a wide range of sports and leisure activities to suit everyone.
Many architecturally attractive buildings, embedded in an imposing mountain backdrop and snow-covered forests - Germany is a real Eldorado for culture enthusiasts. In the Allgäu region, for example, the two beautiful royal castles of Hohenschwangau and Neuschwanstein are waiting to be discovered. The internationally renowned buildings entice visitors with their exclusive rooms and ornate furnishings. Guests are given an authentic insight into the life of King Ludwig II. Hohenschwangau Castle, which also houses a museum, is also not far away. The culturally rich district of Upper Bavaria also offers fans of art and culture numerous activities. Interesting excursion destinations include the Seeon Monastery Culture and Education Centre and the Glentleiten Open-Air Museum, which gives visitors an insight into the traditional rural everyday life of the inhabitants of Upper Bavaria. The European House of Artists in Freising is also very popular.
The winter months transform Germany into a magical region that is a true paradise, especially for winter sports enthusiasts. The best way to explore the region is, of course, on one of the varied hiking trails. The cross-country ski trails and snowshoe hiking routes also inspire many active holidaymakers who like to get out and about on foot every year. One extremely popular route, for example, is the Lech hiking trail in the Allgäu, where hikers simply follow the tributary of the Danube. If you are also camping by one of the picturesque lakes in the Allgäu, you can look forward to ice skating on the frozen water surfaces. If you want more action, get on your skis or snowboard and head to one of the numerous ski resorts in the German Alps. For those who like it extreme, the Oberstdorf ski jump is definitely the place to go.
Guests can also look forward to many fun events in Germany in winter.
