The city of Bamberg in Upper Franconia is one of the most beautiful cities in Germany. The historic town centre from the Middle Ages has been preserved almost intact and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The metropolis is known for its centuries-old beer tradition and brewing culture as well as its traditional market gardens with large cultivation areas in the centre of the city. Camping in and around Bamberg delights nature and culture lovers alike. Surrounded by an idyllic natural landscape, the campsites are excellent starting points for exploring the city or the countryside.
If you want to camp right outside the city gates, there is only one campsite to choose from: Campinginsel. Alternatively, there are beautiful sites in the surrounding area, such as in Lichtenfels, at Weihersee or with the Maincamping, from which Bamberg is only a short drive away. For campers, this has the advantage that they not only get to know the historic metropolis, but also come into contact with other cities and sights in Franconia. PiNCAMP, the ADAC camping portal, has a great selection of campsites in the region.
The camping island close to the city centre is a popular place to combine sightseeing in Bamberg with camping. Camping Weihersee combines a camping holiday close to nature with a cultural experience in the city. On the elongated meadow site in Ebrach, there are pitches in the shade of the trees and plenty of open space for all guests. The neighbouring outdoor pool provides a welcome opportunity to cool off in the summer months and thanks to its location in Franconia, the surrounding sights are easy to discover. Interested campers have the opportunity to book a motorhome pitch at Camping Weihersee directly on PiNCAMP.
A few minutes' drive from Bamberg, Maincamping in Lichtenfels could be a very good choice. Situated between the River Main and a bathing lake, guests can enjoy the natural beauty of Franconia to the full. The small bathing area with adjoining sunbathing lawn, small sports fields and a beach bar are particularly popular. The Maincamping in Lichtenfels receives very good ratings from its guests.
Also located in the Franconian countryside, the Sonnland campsite is an alternative for camping close to the city. Campers can choose the pitch that seems perfect for them from the pitches on the terraced meadow site. Alternatively, guests can opt for rental accommodation with a view of Sesslach or the artificial bathing pond with sunbathing lawn. The journey to Bamberg takes just over half an hour, but other interesting excursion destinations such as Bayreuth or Schweinfurt are also within easy reach of the Sonnland campsite.
