On the shores of Lake Constance lies the municipality of Allensbach, which is characterised by its picturesque location directly on the water and the nearby excursion destinations. Camping with children by the sparkling lake, which provides a welcome cool-down in the summer months, is what makes the secret cultural town on Lake Constance so popular with families. A fantastically beautiful hinterland with hiking opportunities and the island of Mainau offer ideal conditions for camping with dogs.
Allensbach is located on the western shore of Lake Constance opposite the island of Reichenau: from the long lakeside promenade, affectionately known by locals as the Lände, visitors can enjoy a magnificent view of the world heritage site. From the Lände, it is only a few steps to the lakeside garden, which is a popular meeting place for locals and holidaymakers alike, especially during the summer months, where guests can enjoy a game of boules over a glass of wine or listen to one of the numerous events from classical music to jazz that take place on the lakeside stage. The campsites in Allensbach are surrounded by unspoilt nature directly on the shores of Lake Constance and almost always have a private beach.
The municipality of Allensbach is located between Untersee and the western foothills of Lake Constance, just a few kilometres from Constance and the island of Mainau. The region in the south-west of Germany is served by many well-developed motorways and main roads, which make travelling here by car, caravan or motorhome particularly convenient. 800 km separate those coming from Hamburg from Allensbach via the A7 and A81 motorways: romantic Fulda with its famous city palace and the wine town of Würzburg invite you to make a short stopover en route. If you are travelling from Cologne, you have around 500 km ahead of you. The Swabian metropolis of Stuttgart with the Porsche and Mercedes-Benz museums is well worth a short detour on the journey, while those travelling from Leipzig take the A9 motorway almost 630 km to the south. Bayreuth on the Red Main is directly on the way and enchants with the Hermitage Park, the Richard Wagner Museum in the composer's former home and the Bayreuth Festival Theatre. Holidaymakers from Munich should reckon with a journey of almost 300 km to Lake Constance.
A successful mix of nature, culture and exciting sights enriches camping and beach holidays on Lake Constance. The city of Constance and the island of Mainau are ideal for day trips, while holidaymakers can explore the Marienschlucht gorge on a short hike or take a detour to the wildlife and leisure park on the lake.
A visit to the Lake Dwelling Museum in Unteruhldingen, which can be easily reached by ferry from Allensbach, is exciting for young and old alike. Pile-dwelling villages were located around Lake Constance in the Stone and Bronze Ages. Not only archaeological finds from this region, but also authentic reconstructions of pile dwellings amaze children and adults alike.
The Allensbach Wildlife and Leisure Park is nestled in one of the most beautiful natural landscapes on Lake Constance on the Bodanrück peninsula. Visitors can marvel at over 300 wild animals in large enclosures on a leisurely stroll through the nature-protected park. Bison, bears, wild boar and pheasants have found a new home here. The majestic flight demonstrations in the falconry centre round off the visit.
The Lake Constance region is known for its culinary delights and unique recipes, which can be easily prepared even in a motorhome. Crunchy fruit, full-bodied wines and, of course, freshly caught Lake Constance fish are on the menu when camping in Allensbach. The delicacies from Germany's largest fruit-growing region are often made into jams, cakes, tarts, creams and ice cream. A glass of cider from Lake Constance is also not to be sneezed at. The wines from the region are elegant, tangy and fruity and taste excellent with whitefish, perch, pike-perch and pike. A culinary speciality is Dünnele, a type of pizza traditionally topped with sour cream, bacon and onions. The sweet version with apple slices tastes great for dessert.
The south-west of Germany on the border with Liechtenstein and Switzerland is known for its mild climate all year round. Even in the winter months, snow rarely falls. The campsites in Allensbach are therefore a recommended destination all year round, but many holidaymakers opt for the months of May to October, when temperatures in this sunny region exceed 20 degrees Celsius. This is when excursions to the island of Mainau and hiking tours through Reichenau are worthwhile, and from the end of May the warm Lake Constance beckons with suitable water temperatures. A camping holiday in autumn is also particularly attractive, when numerous wine festivals are held around the lake and it is time for the fruit harvest.
