How to get to Istria

There are several routes to choose from when travelling from Munich and the surrounding area. The shortest route is around 580 kilometres long and takes you past the historic towns of Rosenheim, Salzburg and Villach. Culture vultures might like to make a stopover in the city of Mozart with the Hohensalzburg Fortress. The journey continues through Carinthia to the Slovenian border and via Ljubljana. From there it is only about 180 kilometres to Rovinj.

The other route takes holidaymakers to Innsbruck and through South Tyrol until they finally arrive in Friuli-Venezia Giulia in north-eastern Italy. A detour to Udine or Trieste is worthwhile here. From Trieste, it is only around 100 kilometres to Rovinj. If you are travelling from Friedrichshafen or the Lake Constance region, you can opt for the 700 km route along the picturesque Lake Constance and across Vorarlberg.

Culture lovers should not miss out on a visit to Dornbirn or Feldkirch with its medieval old town. The journey continues through Tyrol to the Brenner Pass. During the journey through South Tyrol, travellers are immersed in an impressive mountain world. Holidaymakers should be aware of the increased volume of traffic in South Tyrol, especially in the summer months.

Gastronomy

Croatian cuisine varies greatly depending on the region. While light, Mediterranean dishes with plenty of fresh fish and seafood are served near the coast, the cuisine inland is characterised by hearty meat dishes. The cuisine in Istria is influenced by both. Thanks to the clean waters, there is an abundance of fish, which is reflected in the cuisine.

A traditional speciality from Istria: Istarska Supa. This red wine soup is served with olive oil and pieces of toasted bread. The fish soup Brodetto is also very popular; a delicious stew consisting of fish, olive oil, onions and tomatoes. Burek is a popular snack between meals. These are dumplings with various fillings such as spinach, cheese or minced meat.

Best time to travel for a camping holiday in Rovinj

Rovinj is characterised by the Mediterranean climate and is characterised by very warm summer months with a maximum temperature of around 27 °C. These high temperatures are ideal for a beach holiday on the Istrian coast. The water temperature reaches up to 24 °C in August.

In the months of May to September, the thermometer almost always rises above 20 °C. This is why this time of year is particularly suitable for exploring the city or inland as well as for cycling tours and walks. Spring and autumn are very mild and even in winter, sub-zero temperatures are the absolute exception.
